Born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Reed was the son of Ronald D. Bro and Mary Louise Reed (Bro). He attended Cedar Falls High School, graduating in 1976, where he was active in sports, music, and many social activities. Reed continued his education at the University of Northern Iowa and Wartburg College before gaining acceptance to the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) in Chicago in 1979. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree, graduating with honors in 1983.
Reed began his optometric career in Moline and Charleston, Illinois, before moving to Colorado in 1987. He continued practicing with Total Vision Eyecare until founding Eye Care Center of Colorado Springs, PC in 2001. Dr. Bro loved caring for his patients, and he was rewarded with countless long-term relationships, many spanning multiple generations.
On March 4, 1984, Reed married Jamie Canada (Bro) in Charleston, Illinois. Together they raised two lovely daughters: Stephanie and Mary. Reed cherished his relationships with his family; they were the greatest joy and treasure of his life.
Reed found peace and delight in the mountains of Colorado, where he enjoyed fishing, hiking, and exploring God’s creation. He loved music and spent many hours playing guitar and singing at home and at church. After retiring, Reed devoted time to volunteering and teaching golf lessons to children.
Reed lives on in the hearts of his wife, Jamie; daughter Stephanie (Clint) Calli of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter Mary (Michael) Manning of Edmond, OK; grandson Carter William Calli; granddaughter Sophia Elizabeth Calli; grandson John Leroy “Leo” Manning; grandson Jamison Reed Manning; and sister Beth (John) Roof of La Crosse, WI. He is also remembered by many extended family members, friends, and a loving community. Reed is preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Mary Bro.
