Friends and strangers alike were drawn to Richard’s huge personality, his sense of humor, and his love of life. While we are all devastated by his loss, his family has found a strong sense of comfort in how many people have expressed their condolences and offers of support. He would be very proud knowing he is remembered for constant happiness and his ability to light up a room.
Although he left far earlier than any of us had hoped, he managed to fit more into his 66 years than many do in 100. His favorite pastime was traveling, and he especially loved experiencing the unique foods of whatever culture he visited. He never passed up a road trip, and he excitedly crossed borders around the world. Even when at home, he loved spending evenings and weekends hiking in the Rocky Mountains and sailing on the Chesapeake Bay.
Richard was born in Rockford, Ill in 1953 to Jerrold and Lorraine Hoskinson. He moved many places during his early childhood, but he most often credited Summit, NJ as his hometown. He moved to Washington, D.C. to earn his bachelor’s degree at American University. He stayed there after graduating, until deciding to relocate to Annapolis, MD, so he could be closer to his sailboat. It was a fateful move because that’s where he fell in love with his wife, Pam. A few years later, they packed up their two sons to relocate to Colorado Springs, CO, where he lived the remainder of his life.
Richard is survived by his wife Pamela, his son Alexander, his stepson Benjamin, his sister Judith, his brother James, and two happy greyhounds, Harry and Brody.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave. in Colorado Springs. Richard was a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution who will be providing the Color Guard at his memorial service.
He will be forever missed and would want us all to continue living our lives to the fullest. One of the messages left by a dear friend on his memory page said it best: “Watch-out Heaven, fun has just arrived.”
