Richard Johns

Richard lived a life defined by service, dedication, and hard work. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring as a Sergeant First Class. During his military career he served with the 82nd Airborne Division and worked as a drill sergeant at Fort Jackson. His years in the Army reflected his strong sense of duty and commitment to others.

After retiring from the military, Richard continued to serve his community through his work at the El Paso County Courthouse. Even in retirement he remained active and hardworking, recently working at Lowe’s. Richard was not the kind of man who liked to sit still—he always stayed busy and took pride in getting things done.

Richard enjoyed fishing, working around the house, fixing things, and most importantly spending time with his family and grandchildren. To many on the outside he appeared tough and no-nonsense, but those who truly knew him understood that he had one of the kindest hearts. He was the kind of man you could rely on for anything—from handling the biggest problems to quietly fixing a broken toy.

He is now reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Melissa Johns, as well as his sisters Debbie Johns and Cindy Park Eugene Johns and Mother Mary Lou.

Richard is survived by his loving family including his daughter Ashley Johns, his son Brandon Johns, (Savannah) and his cherished grandchildren Kelsie, Dillon, and Jaxson Johns. He is also survived by his sister Kathy Deel. Mother & Father in-law Peter and Lani Schladweiler.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, followed by the funeral service from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM, at:

Richard will be remembered as a hardworking man, a loyal friend, a proud soldier, and a devoted father and grandfather whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
