I am so sorry to hear of his passing. We were great friends when he lived here in Williamsport Pa. as we were growing into teens and long after. I remember several parties at his parents home I believe was on Tucker St. my prayers and condolences to his family.                    Larry Keller

He was always right, just ask him. I learned not to argue with him, although not right away. He was a great guy/SGM. As his base group facilitator, while reviewing his records, he had a date of rank of 1985 which made me say to myself, "This guy should be teaching me". Well he ended up with a quadruple bypass and 55 days off. He worked hard as we (his next group facilitator) fed him the lessons. He kept up and graduated with his class. He stayed at the Academy while the Army pondered on where to assign him. The Army wanted him to resume his career as a CSM. Rich decided to retire instead. Good call. He worked for 7 11 for awhile then retired again. He made friends where ever he went. Oh yea, many while RVing.
Rich and his family touched my life and brought me through a rough time. I am so thankful for that. I wish so much that I had seen him this year. Either way he is alive in my heart and thoughts. GOD speed Sergeant Major. I toasted the full moon tonight with Tuaca, cheers Rich.

We had so many good times camping together. You will be sorely missed by us and our puppies...they knew you were always good for a treat! We shared much laughter and many happy times. The world was a better place with you in it but heaven is a little brighter because you are there. Our condolences to Your family. Fondly, Tom and Roxene

It brings me with heavy heart to hear the passing of Rich. I first met Rich and Gaby when we used to bowl, never a dull moment with Rich.   It was always fun to be around the both of them. Richard's Classmates of Williamsport High School, class of 1961 with our 60th Reunion coming up on September 25th, will be missed.  Our prayers and thoughts are with his entire family, may he rest in peace.

We had good times at the 85th Division,  

We met Rich when we joined a camping group that he belonged to. We had a lot of fun sitting around a bonfire telling stories and drinking a few adult beverages. Our friendship just exploded from there. We would talk a lot on the phone , at least 2 times a week if not more. We tried to get together with him and Gaby every other Wednesday to enjoy what we called HAPPY HOUR which was lunch and dinner combined. We had a lot of good laughs together. Rich was always giving our server’s a bad time ( all in fun ) we are going to miss you Rich. We had a lot of fun together. GREAT FRIENDS are hard to come by. You were one of the BEST. You will be missed by all that knew you. Love you my friend Chuck & Marilyn. 💕💕

In high school, Rich was the boyfriend of my best friend. We had good times, all of us. We reconnected on Facebook few years ago and shared many post's.

I first met first sergeant Usmar in 1985 when I was brand new to the Army. He taught me how to be a professional Soldier and carry myself in that manner. He was loved by all the soldiers Underneath Him. I then found out he had made command sergeant major and was in Germany. The next time I saw him was in 2010 and lo and behold he remembered me. May this Soldier rest in peace, he touched a lot of soldiers lives.

Many years ago we had the fortune to have you come into our life. Your hand of friendship brought so much joy and laughter.  Nights by the campfire bring such sweet memories.  Our long talks, joking with each other, and sharing a toasts were such great times.  Making reservations for campsites became a contest, getting the best spot,  receiving emails telling us you beat us making reservations always made us laugh.  For every memory we will share with friends and every smile we have when you cross our minds will be a ray of sunshine.  Friends come and go but you will alway be in our life forever. 

The loss of this very gentle and caring man is terribly sad. Rich was such a friend and caring individual who was more than just warm and giving. He cared about you and always had a smile and kind word. He and is lovely wife, Gaby, always made us feel welcomed on our camping adventures. His smile just made you feel wanted and accepted. While his passing is sad, we know that he will always looking down on us and that gives us solace. We will miss you Rich, rest in peace.

I met Rich and his family through the Colorado Cruisers. Rich was so friendly and introduced himself with an extended hand and a broad smile.  We hit it off right away and became good friends. We would have many discussions about our similarities of being in the service. Although we never crossed paths we had been stationed in the 2nd ACR in Germany at the same time and would reminisce of those days. I will always cherish the time we spent together camping and playing games, especially our first and last poker game where he cleaned me out. Cheers my friend and I’ll see you on the other side at Fiddlers Green. My thoughts and prayers go out to Gaby and family. Rich will be sorely missed.

Remembering all the great times we had in the Mannheim Germany bowling alley, the get togethers afterwards and at the bakery with Gaby's family.
Fasching parties and anything else we could just celebrate.
Even so we did not get together much after retirement from the US Army we kept in touch, we will miss the jokes and funny phone calls, in fact we will miss the whole Usmar gang.
Rest in Peace Rich and take care of the young soldiers who did not make it home to their loved ones but are up there in warrior heaven  with you. Love you man
