Robert Lee Bernhardt was born February 9, 1929 in Fort Morgan, Colorado to Henry and Edith Bernhardt. Following a short and hard fought battle with Lymphoma, he passed away peacefully on December 4, 2019 with his two daughters by his side.
Robert married Dorothy Rusch April 23, 1953 and they had two daughters, Dawn and Dana. Dorothy passed away September 4, 1986. He later married Arlene Williams who passed away October 12, 2014.
Robert served in the US Army in Korea in Battery “C”, 52nd Field Artillery Battalion from 1951-1953. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with One Bronze Service Star and the United Nations Service Medal.
Robert worked for the City of Fort Morgan and was the greenskeeper at the municipal golf course. He was also the greenskeeper at Valli Hi Golf Course in Colorado Springs as well as golf courses in Colorado City, CO and Deming, NM.
Robert enjoyed keeping an immaculate yard, tending to rose bushes and many trees and shrubbery. He also enjoyed dancing as well as watching the Denver Broncos.
Robert is survived by his daughters, Dawn Pointer and her husband David, Dana Fuller and her husband Doug, grandchildren Amber Manes and her husband Colby, Ryan Pointer, Darren Fuller and Daniel Fuller, great grandchildren Morgan, Wyatt and Isabella Manes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his second wife, Arlene, his mother and father, his sister Violet and his brother Leonard.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 13th at 1:00 at Brookdale Skyline in the Skyline Room, 2365 Patriot Heights in Colorado Springs.
The family would like to thank the amazing, caring staff at Brookdale Skyline whom he became friends with, as well as the nurses and CNAs at Brookdale Hospice and the staff at Brookdale Pines where he spent his final days.
