He was born to William Verne and Mattie Gertrude (Wilson) Holloway on September 23, 1931. He was the oldest of 4 boys, Gene, Duane and O’Deane Holloway. He married Maxine Brownlee in 1952 and had 4 beautiful children, Richard, Bruce, Lynn and Norma Kaye (deceased at birth). After the untimely passing of his first wife, he re-married Routhella Rae Bean on June 11, 1965, and they adopted their youngest daughter, Amy, in 1969. He was married for 58 years and lost his soul mate in May 2023.
He had many accomplishments over his lifetime. He graduated from Mesa College in 1952 with a degree in business. He was drafted into the US Army Signal Corp. from 1955-1957 and served as a Ham radio operator. Following his honorable discharge, he continued to spend time talking to individuals all over the world. He worked for the Public Service Company in Denver, Colorado in the 1960s. He initially was a budget financial analyst, but later was promoted to senior programmer/analyst responsible for developing commercial computer applications. He returned to school and obtained his BS in business administration and an MBA in finance from the University of Denver graduating with honors. He was employed from 1967-1969 at Colorado Interstate Gas Corporation in several positions including Senior Programmer-analyst, Disbursements supervisor, Senior accounts, budget financial analyst and project manager/senior systems analyst. In 1969, he left Colorado Interstate Gas Corporation and worked in the management resources division at Systemation Inc, an expanding young company in the management information systems field. He later took a position at Kaman Sciences where he managed the design and coordination of an automated accounting system. In the 1970s, he started his “side business” doing taxes in his spare time. Over the years, he realized that this was his true passion. He resigned from Kaman Sciences in 1980 and took a calculated risk to form Holloway Investments. He served as a real estate investor, tax preparer and financial planner with his beloved wife at his side. He enjoyed getting to know his clients and considered them family. He enjoyed thinking about the “nuances of tax preparation” and “schemes” to best plan for retirement. He was always willing to discuss his ideas to those who were interested. In 2008, his son, Bruce Holloway, joined the family business and continues to carry the legacy of Holloway Investments forward.
Verne was deeply committed to the Lord. He worked in his church community as the treasurer and financial advisor for First Church of the Nazarene for many years. He also served on the board of directors for The Voice of Truth for too many years to count. He loved spending time with his family and was always willing to entertain the grandchildren with his tricks. He enjoyed playing spades at the lake and teaching each member of his family how to ski behind the old “pink boat.”
He was an avid reader. In the later years, when Routhella lost her eyesight, he would read the paper version of the book she was listening to on Audible. They spent time enjoying these books together over so many years.
He loved his family dearly and served as the “great protector” over those that he loved. He is survived by his 4 children; Richard Holloway, Bruce Holloway, Lynn Holloway, and Amy (Holloway) Wall; their spouses, Teri Holloway, Dianne Holloway, Brooke Bowman and Glenn Wall. 10 grandchildren (Shane Holloway, Dawn Holloway, Zach Holloway, Taylor Eckstein, Karla Holloway, Lindsay Holloway, Garrett Holslag, Aaron Holslag, Dillon Wall and Olivia Wall). He celebrated each addition to the family and had 6 great grandchildren, with a new addition coming in December 2023. His love of family extended to a large network of “tax friends” who were also dear to his heart. The office was never closed in the event that someone might need help with a financial issue.
In his own words …” Never quit.” His supportive words and sound advice will be missed by so many. He has been welcomed with open arms by God and is again reunited with those he loved so dearly who passed before him.
The celebration of Verne’s life will be held on October 19, 2023, 1:30PM at First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs.
