Robert "Bob" Dale Van Ornum

Bob was born October 8, 1960 in Watertown, SD, the son of Earle A. and Patricia A. (Devaney) Van Ornum.

Bob graduated from Le Mars Community High School, Le Mars, IA in 1979, then attended Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, IA earning a degree in Electronic Communication.

Bob married Jamie Gorrell on August 8, 1981, in Le Mars, IA and together they had Ben Van Ornum, who was born in Sioux City, IA. They later divorced.

Bob moved to Colorado and began a long career in electronics. He spent the final 15 years working as an Engineering Technician with Viking Enterprise Solutions where he enjoyed the work he did and made many close friends.

He loved living in Colorado. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, collecting Delft pottery, and hanging out with his family and grand-puppies. He was a longtime hockey fan and followed the Colorado Avalanche, spending many happy times rooting on the team with family and friends.

Remaining to cherish Bob’s memory are his son, Ben Van Ornum (Kaitlyn Bowers) of Colorado Springs; his mother, Pat; brother Rick Van Ornum; and sister Rhonda (Kevin) Dowdy, all of Branson, MO; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earle Van Ornum.

A memorial service will be held October 12, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Memories, 829 S. Hancock Ave., Colorado Springs, CO. A reception follows at Whistle Pig Brewing, 2117 Templeton Gap Rd., Colorado Springs.

In lieu of flowers, memorials for Bob may be made to an animal shelter of your choice.
