

Roland George Siegfried Schulthess of Monument, Colorado succumbed to cancer on April 1, 2019 with his wife and youngest daughter, Jennifer at his Side. He was 69 years Old. Roland is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathryn Lee Schulthess, Sister, Karen Neumeier of Baden Baden, Germany, brother Ulrich of Stuttgart, Germany; his daughters, Stephanie Schulthess McMillian and Jennifer Wilson (Brian); His nine grandchildren, Emily (20), Marc (18), Jenna (15), Ian (13), Wyatt (12). Roni Nicole (10), Ashlyn and Shane (9), And Georgia (7) as welt as his five cats, Grace, Oreo, Iris, (Man), and Venus.
Roland was born on March 10, 1950 in Eberbach, Germany to Sofie and Siegfried Schulthess,
where he spent the first eight years of his life. At the age of eight. the family immigrated from
Germany to the United States and made Culver City, California their home. His father decided
to move the entire family to The United States to take advantage of all the opportunities the
United States had to offer.
In May of 1964, at the age of 14, Roland received his Lutheran confirmation from the Christ
Lutheran Church in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
On his 18th birthday, Roland joined the army under the Delayed Enlistment Program. He enlisted
in the army to avoid having to move back to Germany with his mother and his siblings.
Roland was assigned to Fort Gordon, Georgia after basic training. He received orders for
advanced individual training for 35K20 Avionics mechanic school and passed with a score of
98%, making him second in the class. Soon after, he was ordered into the 7th aviation battalion
at Camp Casey, South Korea. After arriving at Camp Casey, he request to take the advanced
test for specialist five in which he also passed.
In 1971, after completing his tour in South Korea, Roland returned to the United States and
was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado where he finished out his term for the US Army. He left
the Army in 1971 with an E -5 ranking.
Prior to leaving the Army in 1971, he met Katheryn Rex on a blind date. Kathy was visiting from
Washington state when she met Roland. The two kept in touch through letters and phone calls
and in June he drove to Washington state to be with her. November 26, 1971 they were
married.
Roland & Kathy left Washington state to move to Southern California where they would raise
their two girls. Roland took a job with K & M Precision Machining in Signal Hill, California where
he excelled as a machinist. He operated manual lathes and Mills, he learned how to program
and set up CNC machines. He advanced in his career to be the shop foreman at K &M, and
ultimately became a master machinist. In addition to his work at K & M, he also started a machine
shop, Schulthess Machining, out of his garage where he would spend his nights and his
weekends doing extra work for various companies.
After retiring, Roland & Kathy moved from the hustle and bustle of Southern California to the
more relaxed small town of Monument, Colorado where Roland would live out his remaining
years.
Roland enjoyed watching old westerns and soccer, especially the World Cup. He also was able
to focus on his passion for Firearms, and even took up the hobby of reloading ammo.
In lieu of flowers, the family wish that donations be made to Pikes Peak Palliative and Hospice

Graveside Service will be at Pikes Peak National Cemetery on Wednesday, April 10 at 1 PM.
