Ron Thorne, 62, of Colorado Springs, CO, battled pancreatic cancer with dignity and grace. His awe-inspiring strength and unwavering faith in God gave him the courage to carry him through. Sadly, his earthly life ended on February 5, 2026, but joyfully, his heavenly journey began.
Ron was born in Ogden, UT on May 18, 1963, to Rick and Rita Thorne. He grew up in Widefield, CO and graduated from Widefield High School (Class of 1981). He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Shari Hyatt, on July 14, 1981, in Maryville, TN. They were later blessed with three sons, 6 grandchildren and 44 years together.
Those who had the privilege to know him revered him for his love of family. He loved his wife and children with a devotion that was impossible not to admire. When facing the hardest trial of his life, his concern was for others. The loss of him will leave an unfillable void in many hearts. He was a rare person who made the world feel gentler just by being in it.
Ron was an Air Force Veteran. He had an exemplary career in military service, serving 25 years active duty and 14 years in civil service. He was valued by his superiors for his dedication, work ethic and mentorship.
He is survived by his wife, Shari Thorne; his sons, Matt Thorne (Chelsea) of Peyton, CO; Jason Thorne (Ruth) of Williston, ND; sisters, Rickie Skaggs-Hoaglan (Ralph) of Commerce City, CO; Renee Gardner (Tony) of North Ogden, UT; and 6 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Rick Thorne; mother, Rita George; and his son, Steven Thorne.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at Calvary Worship Center, 501 Castle Rd., Colorado Springs, CO, on Thursday, March 26th, at 10:30am.
