August 29, 1940 – December 5, 2023
Ron passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 5, 2023 at the age of 83. He was born to Duane and Dorothy Townsend on August 29, 1940 in Rock Port, MO. He and his family moved to Pueblo, Colorado when he was a young boy, where he grew up and graduated from Central High School. He worked at a steel mill in Pueblo after he graduated. He and his former wife, Sandy, also met in Pueblo. They were married in Farmington, NM on April 15, 1963 and were married for 36 years. They remained friends until his passing. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Santa Ana, California, where they lived for several years. They gave birth to two daughters while they were in California. Ron worked in the supermarket industry for Stater Brothers Market and also enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves, where he served for several years before returning to Colorado. When they returned to Colorado, they gave birth to their son and finished raising their family in Castle Rock, CO. Ron became a resident of Colorado Springs in 1991, where he lived until he passed. Ron’s career was spent in the supermarket and delivery professions. He worked for King Soopers as a Head Clerk and owned routes for Mother’s Cookies and RPS. He completed his career as a courier in the Colorado Springs area.
Upon retiring, Ron enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Nothing meant more to him than his family. He was an avid sports fanatic. If it was a sport, he would watch it and could speak to every level of sport from high school to college and into the professional arena. He was passionate about attending sporting events for his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed camping in his younger years with his wife and children. His nieces and nephews knew him as Uncle Ronnie, and they cherished his visits. His children and grandchildren have fond memories of him making every effort to never miss a sporting event. He had a strong bond with his children through sports, and it was always a source of joy and common ground in their family.
Ron is survived by his eldest daughter, Deanna Lavoie and son-in-law, Ken; daughter-in-law, Karen Townsend; grandchildren Meghan Lord (Jeremy), Chelsea Zuckerman, Regan Fackler (Brandon), Chase Goodman, and Peyton Townsend; great-grandchildren, Ava, Raelynn, and Easton; his former wife and good friend, Sandra Seabolt; and his eldest sister, Sharon Pettit (Tom). He is preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Dorothy Townsend; his daughter, Lynnette Zuckerman; his son, Darren Townsend; and his youngest sister, Verna Lee Warner.
Ron’s family will lay him to rest at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO with an intimate private service.
