Rosita Emma Lopez, 81, of Colorado Springs died September 5, 2026, at her home. She was a proud grandmother of eight grandchildren. Rose “Blue Eyes” retired from the Colorado Springs School District 11 Transportation Department after 20 years of service.
Rose was born May 12, 1945, in Pueblo to David Maestas and Rosita (Ruybalid) Maestas (both deceased).
Rose graduated from Central High School in Pueblo. She married her high school sweetheart, Benjamin Joseph Lopez, on February 4, 1967 at Mt. Carmel Church in Pueblo. She lived in Colorado Springs since 1980 and previously lived in Venice, CA.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Joseph Lopez, after 25 years of marriage; and two brothers, David Maestas and Sam Perea.
She is survived by two sons, Todd of Aurora, and Jason of Colorado Springs, and one daughter, Rachelle Drinks (Ivan Jr) of Aurora; Michael Gibson of Venice, CA, whom Rose lovingly considered as one of her own adopted sons; two sisters, Millie Padilla of Fountain and Paula Perea of Long Beach, CA; eight grandchildren, Isabella, Lilee, Reina, Audrina, Donivan, Millianna, Romia, and Alicia; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, at the Swan-Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs. A reception will be held immediately following the service at Peak Bowl, 2861 N. Prospect St, Colorado Springs. The burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, at Imperial Memorial Gardens, Pueblo.
