Rowena L. Hinshaw passed away on December 20, 2014, in Colorado Springs. She was born April 17, 1905, in Cañon City, Colorado, and resided in Colorado Springs since 1947. Rowena was the beloved wife of Kenneth L. Hinshaw, who passed away in 1982. She was the daughter of Charlotte (Lewis) and Gus A. Latham, both of whom predeceased her. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Rowena was a homemaker, and also a retired administrative assistant for School District 11. She was passionate about the educational system, a passion shared with her late husband who was a principal and supervisor of secondary education. Rowena was a proud member of the Territorial Daughters of Colorado.
An avid bridge player, she enjoyed hosting a ladies’ bridge group in her home. She loved gardening, and her many African violets and houseplants were a joy to all who visited her.
Rowena lived her faith. She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church, the Women’s Circle group, and Eastern Star. Even at age 99, she would not miss her Thursday morning Bible study group.
Visitation will be at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, Monday, December 29, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Lehmberg Chapel at First United Methodist Church, 420 N. Nevada Ave., Colorado Springs, on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Rowena will join her husband in burial at the Lakeside Cemetery in Cañon City, Colorado.
