

Roy J. Helm, of Colorado Springs, passed away on December 30, 2015. Roy was born on March 30, 1928 in Fayette County, Illinois to Roy A. and Urilla Helm. He married Geraldine Norris, of Mason, Illinois, on September 7, 1949. They moved to Colorado Springs in the early 50’s, where he served in the U.S. Army. He went on to become a master barber, and owned and operated “Roy’s Barber Shop.” He later worked as the head of maintenance for the Harrison School District.
He is survived by special friend, Phyllis Irsik, of Colorado Springs, sons Dennis, and wife, Joanna, of Vandalia, Illinois, Mark of Denver, Colorado, Brian and special friend, Mindy, of Falcon, Colorado, grandchildren, Amy, Mindy, Cammie, Robin, Jamie, Chris and Samantha, two great-grandchildren, Ella and Lilly, sisters Marcella Haslett, of St. Elmo, Illinois, Dorothy Dickerson, of Decatur, Illinois, brother-in-law, Bob Osborne, Geraldine and Donald Schwartz, several nieces and nephews, and his faithful canine companion, Jewels. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Lodema Brubaker, Sara Osborne and Gladys Wikoff; by his brother, Charles and Gerald Helm, infant brother, and his grandson, Matthew Helm.
A celebration of life and dinner will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Mason cemetery in Mason, Illinois.
