Ruth (“Ruthie”) Esther Bell Cockey was born April 1, 1925, in Baltimore, Maryland, and went home to be with the Lord on May 4, 2016, where she was met by her beloved husband of 62 years, Rev. A. Carlton Cockey.
Ruthie will continue to live in the memories of her sister, Anna Messick of Youngsville, North Carolina, brother Robert Bell of Omaha, Nebraska, children Cheryl Cooper (Al) Powell, Ohio, Shelby Jaedicke (Carl) of College Station, Texas, Sarah Watson (James) of Victor, Colorado, Jonathan Cockey (Marie) of Spencerport, New York, and Lori Peterson (Tom) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
God blessed Ruthie with a beautiful voice, which she used to fill churches and communities with music, and the gift of hospitality to care for patients as an LPN and serve others as a minister’s wife. Ruthie opened her heart and home to celebrate holidays and events with family, friends, and neighbors, and she was always prepared to welcome an unexpected guest or assist a person in need.
Ruthie came into this world with a sparkle in her eyes and vivacity for life, and she left those who called her mother, grandmummum, sister, aunt, and friend with enduring memories of her love and faith.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016, from 5-6 p.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Home, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.
