Samuel William Wooten

Sam was born at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Bethesda, MD on August 22, 1987 to LTC Marvin USA (Ret.) and Ann Wooten.

A Lewis-Palmer High School graduate, Sam served as a volunteer in many church and ministry settings, including Glen Eyrie as a housekeeper. Diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, he succumbed after four years of valiant fighting against the disease. He passed with every sibling, their spouse, and several nieces present at his bedside praying over him as he took his last breath.

Born with Down Syndrome, Sam had a full life interacting with people wherever he went. Will Rogers once said, “I never met a man I didn’t like”, and this was certainly

true of Sam. He made anyone, including strangers, smile and engage in the moment with his enthusiastic greetings and questions. Compassionate to the core, Sam always asked others how they were doing and remembered details of their lives, including many years later. A passionate sports fan over the years, he could recall the NFL stats of any former Oklahoma University football player. At one time, he personally knew seemingly every Colorado Rockies baseball player as well as the manager. Most recently, he could quote the placing by name of every competitor in all 50 seasons of Survivor. His main and most passionate activity though was reading the Bible daily, often for hours at a time and out loud.

He took his greatest enjoyment from being with family and various church fellowship groups. Sam is survived by his siblings Colin Wooten, wife Amy Wooten, Cameron Germann, husband Brian Germann, Miriam Harris, and husband Jeff Harris. Sam’s nine nieces and nephews include Caroline, Eric, and Ian Wooten, Cambria Tsoutsas and husband Samuel Tsoutsas, Anna, and Benjamin Germann, Kate and Kaia Fair, and Braxton Harris. Sam is preceded in death by his father Marv and recently by his mother Ann.

Funeral arrangements will be held at 10:00 am, July 24th, at Vanguard Church-Central which will be a joint service for both Sam and his mother Ann. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Sam may be sent to ministries his siblings and nieces/nephews serve with: The Association of Christian Conferences, Teaching, and Service (ACCTS)--a ministry to the armed forces of the nations, or Eurorelief, an organization providing emergency relief and recovery work in response to humanitarian crises in Greece.
