Sharon’s earliest years were shaped by Catholic primary school forging her beliefs in imagination and creativity, qualities that made her, a bright light who insisted that anything was possible. That sense of wonder carried her far, including to Paris, where she studied art.
Over a lifetime of work, Sharon built a career defined by vision, discipline, and limitless drive to create. She started her own interior design company while remaining a professional artist. Seen worldwide as a renowned painter and sculptor of her generation. Sharon often said she lived art from the moment she “came out the womb,” and she would never retire: retirement, meant satisfaction— suggesting being finished, and she was never going to be done.
Sharon was married twice and had one daughter, Debra Callen. She was a grandmother to Ciewantu Crowbear, a great-grandmother to Matt, Nick, and Bryan, and a great-great-grandmother to Cambria. Sharon also shared a great love with Douglas Spaulding; together with her daughter, they formed what they called “The Triad,” working side by side they achieved great things.
In her daily life, Sharon pursued what she described as a road always leading toward enlightenment— absorbing knowledge, creating, loving, and living fully. She opened her home to teach art to D-11 school students. She inspired others of all ages to question, to listen, and to live fully in the present. With conviction & persistence, she fought for women's rights, equality for all individuals. She fought against commercialization of the Garden of the Gods and for protective status of trees.
Sharon’s legacy can be heard in the simple clarity of what she urged: to live, to love, to share in this moment, because it is all you have. This is the better place. The collective of her family gives thanks, holding to the hope that through gratitude and understanding, this Earth and all its inhabitants can find peace.
“Darling you’re beautiful and I love you.”
