Shirley Skidmore

Shirley (Manyik) Skidmore (89) was born January 12, 1937 to Joe and Helen Manyik in Calhan, Colorado. She was raised in Calhan on a dairy/cattle farm. She worked alongside family tending to the farm and hoeing beans. She graduated from Calhan High School in 1955.

While still in high school Shirley attended a church sponsored ice skating party in Ramah, where she met her husband-to-be, Lloyd Skidmore. They married on November 11,1956 and they shared 67 devoted years of marriage together. Shirley and Lloyd made their life together living in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

After marrying Lloyd, Shirley worked for El Paso County in the Department of Motor Vehicles and then the Treasurer’s office for many years.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother who also spent many years as a licensed in-home child-care provider. She always had a love of children and nurtured these young ones like they were her own. She enjoyed sports, especially cheering on her children and grandchildren, and even her great grandchildren. She was a lover and collector of antiques and dolls for many, many years.

Shirley’s life was deeply rooted in her profound faith in God. Baptized as an infant at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Calhan, she and Lloyd later raised their own children within the church, where Shirley devoted many years to teaching Sunday School. They would attend local Christian churches when they couldn't make it to Calhan and her dedication to fellowship never wavered. In her final two years, she found great joy in attending church services and participating in Bible study groups at her senior living facility.

Shirley passed away on August 27, 2026. She was preceded in death by her spouse Lloyd Skidmore, parents Joe and Helen Manyik, siblings Delmer Manyik, Kathleen Neptune, and Christina Kosley. Shirley leaves behind one daughter, Tammy Engelby (Lauren), and one son, Donald Skidmore (Lisa). She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Jeremy Engelby (Maria), Maurice Engelby, Beth Hutchinson (Travis), Mitch Skidmore (Elizabeth), Matthew Engelby, Ryan Engelby and 11 great-grandchildren: Elijah, Isaiah, Caden, Henry, Theodore, Noah, Louella, Isaac, Jacob, Everly, and Rena. She is also survived by sister-in-law Millie Manyik and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley loved spending time with family and at family gatherings. Shirley was loved dearly and will be truly missed.

A private family service will be held at Memorial Gardens.
