Shirley Fay Wecks (née Grimes), age 98, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Born on February 10th, 1927, in Oakland, California, Shirley lived a life filled with love, faith, and devotion to her family and community.
Shirley met the love of her life, Leonard Vernon Wecks, at the Say So house in California when she was just 16 years old and Leonard was serving in the Navy. Their bond was immediate and enduring. The day after Shirley graduated from high school, she married Leonard, beginning a beautiful partnership that lasted 63 years until Leonard's passing. Together, they built a life centered on faith and service.
A gifted pianist, Shirley’s musical talents were an integral part of her life. She often accompanied Leonard in his ministry at First Presbyterian Church, where she played the piano for services and led children’s music groups. Her dedication to the church extended far beyond music; she was a steadfast helpmate in her husband’s ministry and found joy in visiting the sick and helping those in need. Shirley’s faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her.
Shirley had a passion for entertaining and creating warm memories for her loved ones. Holidays were always celebrated at Grandma's house, where she delighted in cooking and baking for her family. Her home was a place of comfort and joy, filled with laughter and the aroma of delicious meals lovingly prepared. She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son Dan and his wife Deb; daughter Robin and her husband Byron; daughter Laurie and her husband Tom; ten grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren. Shirley’s family brought immense pride and happiness to her life. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Leonard Vernon Wecks.
Even as she aged gracefully into her later years, Shirley continued to play the piano—a lifelong passion—almost until the end of her days. Her caring nature touched countless lives, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and compassion that will be remembered by all who knew her.
Shirley Fay Wecks led a long and fruitful life devoted to faith, family, music, and service. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who loved her. May we find comfort knowing she is now reunited with her loving Lord and Savior.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou St. in Colorado Springs, at 10:30 a.m. on July 2nd, 2026.
