

Spencer served in the Colmar Pocket, Battle of the Bulge during World War II. He attended South Dakota State College at Brookings, South Dakota, where he received his degree in Civil Engineering. Most of his working years were with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which included missile projects and NORAD.
Spencer married Mary Ann Knievel in December 28, 1960. Spencer was a member of Valley Hi Golf Club and the Argonauts. He was an avid Bridge player.
Spencer is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, his sister, Mary Ellen Vejvoda and her husband, Ed of Boulder, Colorado, his sister, Evelyn Chard of Custer, South Dakota, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ethel Smith and his brother, Roger Smith.
The funeral will be at 11 am on Saturday, September 14, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2410 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO, with father John Slattery officiating. Interment will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis, South Dakota, at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marian House Soup Kitchen, Silver Key, Care and Share, or to a charity of the giver’s choice.
