Steve was born in Lakewood, Ohio to The Rev. and Mrs. Paul Klett. He is survived by his brother, Thomas Klett and sister-in-law Dawn, niece Courtney and nephew Kyle; sister, Elizabeth Katz and brother-in-law Julius, nephews David and Jeffrey, as well as several cousins. He was close to Cary and Jennifer Robbins and children Maddox, Julian, and Chloe.
Steve was raised in a military family and moved often. He often remarked that his family life was quite interesting and unique, and that he was grateful for the opportunities to live in different places and experience different lifestyles that were afforded to an Army family. He graduated in 1965 from Salinas High School in Salinas, California, and attended the University of Maryland in Munich, Germany, graduating from the College Park campus of the University of Maryland in 1971. He went on to earn a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs.
Steve went on to explore his many interests, both in his professional career in corporate training, organizational development, and wilderness expedition leadership as well as the things he enjoyed doing in his free time. He enjoyed traveling, became a good cook, developed a distinctive style and taste in design, and loved all things Italian. He acquired his Alfa Romeo later in life, and he loved taking people for a ride through the Garden of the Gods. He was well-traveled and especially enjoyed the time he spent living in Europe. He liked to challenge himself in pursuit of outdoor activities and adventure but was equally interested in art, architecture, classical music and visiting historic sites and museums.
Steve had a wide circle of friends who provided him with admirable and faithful support during his year-long battle with cancer. His family is grateful to the many medical professionals who oversaw Steve’s care as well as the friends and neighbors who helped him through a difficult time.
No services were held. Gifts in Steve’s memory may be made to the Biden Cancer Initiative or Pikes Peak Hospice.
