Steven August Gutknecht, 51, was welcomed into heaven on May 24th. Steve was born on January 16, 1961 in Moorehead Minnesota the youngest child and only son of Donald and Joan (Simpson) Gutknecht. A long time resident of Colorado Springs, he was a graduate of Palmer High School and in 2011 he retired from Colorado Springs Utilities with over 30 years of exemplary service to the community. Those of us that were fortunate enough to call him friend or family will miss his endearing smile, his wise counsel, his unshakeable faith in God, his love of country, devotion to his family, his wonderful sense of humor and his willingness to lend a hand whenever and wherever needed. In his free time, Steve was an avid reader, a history buff, a longtime NASCAR fan, a collector of old bottles, a gardener, rock hound and a musician. But more than anything else, Steve was a fisherman. Whether it was Colorado, Nebraska, North Dakota or Canada, he was ready to wet his line anywhere the fish were biting.
Steve is survived by his father Donald, sister Conni (DeMark), daughter Katelyn (Teasdale), son Brian and three precious granddaughters. Funeral services for Steven will be held on Thursday, May 31st, 11am at Pikes Peak United Methodist Church, 2927 W. Pikes Peak Ave.
