Susan Margaret Applegate, 66, passed away on September 11, 2026. She was born on June 22, 1960. A resident of Fountain, Colorado, Susan will be remembered with deep respect and enduring gratitude for a life shaped by steady faith, quiet strength, and a generous devotion to others.
Susan grew up in Riverside, CA, the daughter of John and Virginia Marie (Called Marie), and the sister of two brothers, David and Charlie. From her earliest years, she carried a gentle, kind-hearted spirit—one marked by patience, thoughtfulness, and a compassion that made people feel seen and cared for.
She worked as an office manager for three years, and from the birth of her first child devoted herself to her family as a homemaker and stay at home mom. In the daily rhythms of home, Susan’s selfless nature and steady presence became a source of comfort and encouragement, expressed in countless practical ways and in the warmth she brought to ordinary moments.
On July 22nd 1990, Susan married her husband, Richard. Together they built a family that remained at the center of her life: children, Cory Thomas and Colby; stepdaughters, Mandeline Applegate and Brooke Saunders; and her fur baby, a maltese poodle named Lucy. Her love for her family was constant and faithful—an abiding commitment that guided her choices and shaped her legacy.
Susan found joy in painting, baking, dancing, sewing and a mirage of crafting hobbies. Whether creating something with her hands or sharing what she had made, she reflected an ability to notice beauty and to offer it back to the world with generosity and care. She especially loved sunrises and sunsets and would post photos of them often on Facebook for everyone to see God's beautiful painted sky.
Her faith was lived with sincerity and service. Through the Pikes Peak Park Baptist Church, she served as an AWANA’s leader (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed). In that role she took care of preschool-aged children from three to four years old. Susan also volunteered in the nursery at Restoration Church for over 15 years, where she held the babies close and they would always fall asleep in her lap. With a spirit that inspired others to show up and do good, she gave six years to the ALZ Walk to end Alzheimer's and raised almost $10,000.
Susan’s legacy is rooted in her love of God and her family, and in her ability to see beauty in everything. She will be remembered by her words: “Choose love everyday,” and by the scripture that strengthened her, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phillippians 4:13.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Bruce and Donna Kintop, Thomas Applegate, Congregation of Restoration Church, and Mary Elizabeth Fabian-Redding for their kindness, support, and care.
