Susan Koutantos, 61, passed away in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after a hard-fought battle that showed the strength everyone who knew her had always seen in her. Raised in New Jersey, Susan carried that East Coast fire with her everywhere she went. A true Scorpio in every sense of the word, she was stubborn, passionate, strong-willed, protective, and unapologetically herself. She did things her own way until the very end, and anyone who loved her wouldn’t have wanted her any other way.
Susan was a realtor, a gardener, a dog lover, and above all else, a mother and Gigi. She had a presence that could brighten every room she walked into. People were naturally drawn to her energy, her humor, and the way she made others feel comfortable and cared for. She was sharp, funny, and never afraid to speak her mind. One of her favorite sayings whenever she said something clever was “not just a hat rack,” and hearing that phrase now will forever bring both laughter and tears to the people who knew her best.
As an employing broker, Susan became someone so many people leaned on for advice, guidance, and reassurance. Real estate agents constantly called her asking what to do, how to handle situations, or simply needing someone they trusted to talk things through with. But it wasn’t just agents who turned to her. Her friends, her family, and especially her kids always went to her for advice because somehow she always knew exactly what to do or say. She had a way of making people feel understood and stronger after talking to her. She genuinely cared about helping people and was always willing to share her knowledge, honesty, and wisdom.
She loved being outside in her garden, spending time with her dogs Diva, Chanel, and Gaston, and surrounding herself with the people she loved most. Nothing in this world mattered more to Susan than her family. Her grandchildren, Isabella and Aurora Dillie, her “little love bugs,” were the absolute light of her life. The love she had for them was endless and impossible to put into words. Being their Gigi brought her a kind of happiness that everyone around her could see.
She is survived by her daughter, Kassandra Koutantos; her son, Nicholas Koutantos; her son-in-law, Brandon Dillie; and her daughter-in-law, Haley Koutantos. The loss of Susan leaves a space in their hearts that can never truly be filled, but her love, her voice, her humor, and her strength will stay with them forever.
Susan was a fighter until the very end. Through every obstacle placed in front of her, she kept fighting with a strength that amazed everyone around her. Even in the hardest moments, she continued to show resilience, determination, and love for her family. She reminded us all what it meant to be strong.
To know Susan was to know someone who loved fiercely, protected the people she cared about, and left an unforgettable mark on everyone around her. She will be deeply missed every single day.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 15 at 2:00 PM, where family and friends are invited to come together to share memories, tell stories, laugh, cry, and celebrate the beautiful, strong, unforgettable woman that Susan was.
