Thomas G. Hendrix, beloved husband, father, uncle, and grandfather passed away peacefully on July 27, 2015 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Born on April 4, 1925 in Colorado Springs to the late Joseph and Florence Hendrix, he was proud to be a 90-year native resident of the city.
Tom joined the Army after graduating from Colorado Springs High School in 1943 and served in the 622nd Ordnance Ammunition Company in the South Pacific during World War II. At the end of the war, he returned to his home in Colorado Springs and went to work for the Timken Steel Company.
Tom was married to Doris (Hansen) on September 14, 1963.
Tom loved to explore his home state Colorado with his family and dogs, taking long, lazy summer drives. In the warmer months, he could often be found camping, fishing, and hiking with his family, while in autumn the changing colors always called to him. Tom was thrilled to see his love of Colorado passed on to his son, David.
A life-long resident of the Westside, he was an active member of the Old Colorado City Historical Society and a founding member of the Westside Optimist Club. He loved taking walks through Rockledge Ranch and Garden of the Gods with his faithful Boston Terriers. When his daughter, Amy, got her first Boston, he was glad to have passed along his affection for these loyal companions.
Although grandchildren didn’t arrive until he was in his eighties, they helped to keep him young and active. Tom shared his love of classic Chevys with his grandson Mason, and adored his granddaughter Isabelle’s guitar playing. He was as proud of his grandkids as any grandpa could be.
Tom leaves behind his devoted wife of 52 years, Doris; loving children David (Susan) Hendrix and Amy (Scott) Marcy both of Colorado Springs; adored grandchildren Mason and Isabelle; as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends.
