Thomas was born on September 6, 1937 to Thomas A. Weatherley Jr and Ruth Ridgway in New York City, New York. He spent his childhood in New York and Bermuda and eventually attended Cornell University and earned a bachelor’s degree from Claremont Men’s College and a master’s degree from Colorado Technical College.
Thomas started his career in California as a computer systems analyst in the early 1960s. Around the same time, he married Karla and they started a family together, eventually having a son and a daughter.
Thomas’ lengthy career included work for various tech companies and government contractors at locations throughout the United States, including New York, California, NORAD, Minot AFB, Shemya AFB, and Florida.
Thomas was a sports enthusiast and in his younger years he enjoyed lacrosse, ice hockey, running and skiing. He also greatly loved the outdoors and enjoyed taking his family camping, hiking, and fishing. Later in life, golf, racquetball, and handball became his primary sporting passions. His other hobbies were ham radio and music. He especially loved traveling to folk and bluegrass festivals around the country and playing his acoustic guitar. Finally, Thomas absolutely loved to read - particularly about science and the paranormal.
Throughout his life, Thomas had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and he strongly believed in the importance of family, a good education, a solid career, and in having a wide variety of interests and life experiences.
