Tommie Lee Gipson Senior passed away on Saturday, April 14th, 2018 at the age of 87. Tommie was born on February 7th, 1931 to E.B. Gipson and Minnie (Dickey) Gipson in Ringgold, Louisiana. He was a resident of Colorado Springs, CO for over 50 years. As a SFC E7 in the United States Army, he traveled and served both domestically and abroad.
Tommie enjoyed serving his church and the community. He was a member of St. Johns Baptist Church under the directions of Pastor M.E. Proby and Pastor Willie J. Sutton, Jr. He also, enjoyed taking his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids fishing on his boat. In addition to fishing, he also had a love for bowling, which he enjoyed with his wife (Dot). He was also a part of several bowling leagues.
Tommie proudly served in the United States Army for 20 years and retired in 1971. While in the military he served in several installations throughout the United States and abroad. He served two tours in Germany and is a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War. A decorated veteran, Tommie served with honor. For his service, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the Combat Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Army Commendation 2nd Award Bronze Star with 1 Cluster. After his military service Tommie work for Hewlett Packard for 15 years where he retired a second time. After he retired he continued to work for himself helping the community by providing handyman services.
He is survived by his loving wife Dottie J. Gipson (Dot), whom he was married to for 65 years, and their children: Calvin Gipson (Brenda Alexander), Stephanie Gipson, Donna Simmons, Brenda White (Tony) and Tommie L. Gipson, Jr. In addition to their children he is survived by four sisters, Faye Williams, Edijean Cheatham (Murphy), Evelyn Braggs, Monica Uhland (Frederick), and two brothers, Samuel Holman (Emma) and Alveno (Peter) Gipson (Bonnie). Ten grandchildren, Nia Gipson, Asha Gipson, Toni Bellot (Gerald), Darryl Gipson, Zachary Simmons, Jelany White, Kahri White, Chris Rubidoux, Tomas Akil Gipson, and Angelica Gipson. As well as eight (8) great-grandchildren, Gerald Jr. (Jerrell), Aaron, Anthony, Jekhari Bellot, Julian, Alana, Isiah, and Ryan Rubidoux. He also leaves behind a host of beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
