On July 15th, 2022, Virginia (Ginny) Alice Forney of Franktown, passed away peacefully at the age of ninety-three. A daughter and granddaughter of pioneer homesteaders, she was born June 12th, 1929 to William and Elvessa Holmes in Colorado Springs and spent her early life of their ranch at Wigwam. She attended Colorado A&M, where she met her husband, Joseph W. Forney.
Virginia was a loving and dedicated wife and mother. She had a particularly soft spot in her heart for each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her wit, humor, and endearing nature were infectious. Always ready for a good laugh, she enjoyed jokes, teasing, and pranks. Her laughter warmed our hearts. True to her heritage, she loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and gardening. She loved her quarter horses, and she was an enthusiastic fan of rodeo and horse racing. She enjoyed the camaraderie experienced with ranch hands during cattle branding. She was never bored. Virginia provided her family with unending support and guidance throughout her life and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; Joseph, her loving husband of 66 years; her sister Jean Holmes; and her granddaughter, Michelle Woods. She is survived by her children J. Michael (Annette) of Castle Rock, W. Mark of Greeley, Virginia (J. David Hause) of Castle Rock, Jean (Thomas Gergens) of Amarillo, Texas, and David (Gina) of Fairfax, Virginia; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. A private family service is planned with interment at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs.
