

William was born in July 1930 in Temple, Oklahoma to William and Ruth Chambers. At an early age, Bill would venture to the local train station to watch the cowboys move cattle on and off the trains, this would have a later impact on his life.
William Graduated from the US Navel Academy, in 1953. Taking his commission with the US Air Force and completed flight training in 1954, flying such planes as the F86-D Sabre Jet, T-33s, and C-47s as a senior pilot from 1953 through 1957. Bill attended the Air Force Institute of Technology, earning a master’s degree in electrical engineering. In 1960 he attended Squadron Officers School. In 1974, now Colonel Chambers was Wing Commander of the 6595th Aerospace Test Wing, he retired his command in 1979. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit.
After his first retirement Bill went into the Aerospace industry with United Space Boosters. Following yet another retirement, Bill went on to be a Professor at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo within the Department of Industrial Technology.
After retiring from the working world, Bill went onto restore a 125-year-old farmhouse with his wife Etta, in Arroyo Grande, California. Bill and Etta finally retired to Colorado Springs in 2007. The couple began breeding, raising, and competing with American Quarter Horses and American Paint Horses, earning multiple world champion titles.
Bill's beloved wife Etta, as well as his sons Mark and Steve, passed away before him. His daughter, Ellen Chambers of Peyton, Colorado, survives him.
