William Clinton Poulson (90), a native of Colorado Springs, CO, and Veteran of the Vietnam War, passed away on March 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Bill, as he was known to many, was born May 2, 1934, to Garrel Burdett and Esther Pearl (White) Poulson. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore (Urbach) Poulson; parents, Garrel and Esther Poulson; and son-in-law, James Flowers. He is survived by his three daughters, Cheryle Lynette Poulson, Patricia Annette Wimble (Greg), Melanie Susan Poulson-Flowers, six grandchildren: Bradley, Stuart (Carley), Ryan (Alexis), Connor, Samuel, and Lauren (Zachary); and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Vance Poulson (Sherry), and their family from Salt Lake City, UT.
Bill graduated from Lewis Palmer High School located in Monument, CO in 1952 where he excelled in athletics. He then attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO with scholarships for basketball, football, and track. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Banking, he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, joined ROTC, and earned a commission of Army 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation in 1956.
During Bill’s 22 years in the U.S. Army, he advanced to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and achieved many awards including Legion of Merit for service in ARADCOM (Army Air Defense Command); Legion of Merit for service in BMDOC (Ballistic Missile Defense Command); Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palms; Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars; and a Bronze Star Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster.
Following his military service, Bill had a successful career in real estate, earning ERA Realty West’s Top Salesman of the Year award in Colorado Springs, CO, and national awards for sales excellence.
However, Bill would tell you that his most meaningful success was his 60-year marriage to the love of his life, Lenore Urbach. They were married in June 1957, and Bill remained a devoted and loving husband until her passing in 2017. With his calm demeanor and nurturing spirit, he embraced and excelled at the role of father to his three daughters, “his girls.” He taught them resilience, he modeled kindness, and he demonstrated unconditional love. And his love of his girls extended to their children and earned him the title of the best "Grampy" ever.
Bill was a deeply devoted Christian, embodying his faith through numerous leadership roles within the church community. His humility and genuine kindness radiated warmth, making everyone who crossed his path feel valued and appreciated. Beyond his spiritual commitments, Bill found joy in various activities, including peaceful days spent fishing by the lake, spirited evenings bowling with league friends, and engaging in lively games of basketball and football. Each of these pastimes brought him immense happiness and a sense of connection with others.
His family has organized a Viewing and Visitation to be held from 5:00 -7:00 PM on March 21st, 2025 at Swan-Law Chapel, 501 North Cascade Avenue. A Graveside Memorial Service to honor Bill’s life and military service will be held on March 22nd, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Memorial Gardens, located at 3825 Airport Road.
