William Patrick (Bill) Tray, 87 passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, December 3, 2016. Bill was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and a friend to many. Bill was born July 26, 1929 in Ottumwa, Iowa to John Joseph Tray and Regina Cecelia (Robertson) Tray. Bill met the love of his life Margaret Elizabeth Niess on a blind date while attending the University of Iowa. Bill and Margaret were married on July 19th, 1952. During their 64 years of marriage they had nine children. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree, Bill was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Bill’s first duty assignment was Korea in 1950. Together they traveled extensively living in Iowa, Illinois, New York, Georgia, Japan, Florida, Wyoming and finally retiring in Colorado in 1982. They enjoyed camping and were members of the Pikes Peak Rainbows and Good Sams RV groups. They made many good friends hiking in the Colorado mountains. Bill volunteered for Prospect Hospice. His hobbies included wood carving and making jewelry. Bill was a friend to many and he will be deeply missed. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his son Paul David Tray, his daughter Margaret Ellen Westbrook, his brothers Paul Tray & Robert Tray, and his sisters Mary Smith & Virginia Gurena. Bill is survived by his wife Margaret; his children: Karen Adams (Art), William P. Tray II (KaAnn), Jeff Tray, Jeanne Jacobs (Tom), Joyce Nason (Dan), Robert Tray (Tina), Linda Wilson (Ed); his 21 grandchildren; his 13 great grandchildren, his sister Patricia Waldrop, and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Memorial Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 3825 Airport Road on Saturday, December 10 from 9 am. A service will follow at 10 am followed by a graveside service at 11 am.
