Born on August 16, 1998, in Fort Worth, Texas, Zane was the beloved son of Michelle Kelley and Chris Henkel. From the time he was just three years old, he was raised with love and care by his father, Brian Pelegrin, who remained a steady and devoted presence throughout Zane’s life.
Zane grew up in a lively and loving home with five siblings. At the age of 12, he experienced the heartbreaking loss of his brother Triston and sister Kurstyn Pelegrin—an event that left a lasting impact on his kind and compassionate heart.
Known for his quick wit, big smile, and even bigger heart, Zane brought joy and laughter wherever he went. He had a natural way of making people feel at ease and was always the one who could lift a mood or make someone laugh. He loved deeply—especially his family and friends—and had a special bond with his best friend and sister Bri and husband, loved his nephews and nieces , who absolutely adored their Uncle Zane.
In recent years, Zane found deep love and partnership with Kayla Gerlach, whom he asked to marry. Together they were joyfully preparing to welcome their first child—a daughter, Aryia Zane Henkel—and he lovingly embraced the role of stepfather to Cooper, whom he cared for with pride and heart.
Zane was naturally talented in many things and gave his all to whatever he set his mind to. More than that, he was the kind of person who made others feel loved, supported, and never alone.
He is preceded in death by his father Chris Henkel, his paternal grandmother Pam Henkel, and his siblings Triston and Kurstyn Pelegrin.
Zane is survived by his mother Michelle Pelegrin (formerly Michelle Kelley) and father Brian Pelegrin; great-grandmother Jan McClure; grandparents Cherri and Richard Hughes, Kevin and Debbie Kelley, Ray Henkel, and Brenda Senum; fiancée Kayla Gerlach, their unborn daughter Aryia Zane Henkel, and stepson Cooper.
He is also survived by his sisters: Alexzandra Henkel-Rodríguez (Brandon), Jenna Lavigne (George), and Breanna Perez (Cristian); and brother CJ Henkel. Uncles Brian Henkel, RJ Henkel, and Jason Kelley; aunt Sarah Kelley; cousins Levi, Billy, Elijah, and Isaiah; seven nieces, three nephews, and a large extended family who will forever carry him in their hearts.
A celebration of Zane’s life will be announced at a later date. Until then, we remember him with love, laughter, and gratitude for the time we were blessed to have with him.
