

Zona Arleta Parkhurst was born on May 24, 1929 , in Hugo, Colorado to the late Frank and Elsie (Dean) Parkhurst; her beloved stepfather was Raymond Nash. She was a 1947 graduate of the Drennan School, class Valedictorian. She married Wayne Allan Crandall on August 22, 1948, in Colorado Springs.
As Treasurer, Arleta was instrumental in leading the efforts to obtain Historic Landmark designation for the Drennan School building, located in eastern El Paso county; and securing grants from the Colorado Historical Society to renovate the building. Arleta was passionate about creating an enduring community asset for generations to come. In her early career, she worked for Shepard's Citations in Colorado Springs. She retired from School Dist. 11, and countless students knew her as tutor, mentor and friend. Arleta was known for her gifts of hand made candies, her musical talents at the piano, and love of dance as a member,with her husband Wayne, of the Broadmoor Waltz Club and several square and round dance organizations.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Wayne; daughters Cherry Crandall (John Dunkleman) of Denver, and Rhonda Rickett ( Marty ) of Colorado Springs; and grandsons Adam and Dustin Rickett. She is also survived by her brother Ray Nash (Sharon) of Denver, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was proceeded in death by her sister Frieda Osborn.
Services will be held at Memorial Gardens in Colorado Springs; Viewing Friday February 7, 5 -7pm; Service Saturday February 8, 2pm with reception following.
