January 11, 1943 – August 16, 2022
Antonio “Tony” Encarnacion passed away on August 16, 2022 at 5:54 pm after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of over 54 years Amparo (“Ampy”), daughter Tina, son Joey, two grandchildren Lu and Matteo, and two daughters-in-law Janine and Jackie.
After graduating from the University of Santo Tomas’ architectural program in the Philippines, Tony worked a long, fruitful career as an architectural and exhibit designer before retiring in 2010. When the architecture industry started to adopt computer-aided design (CAD), Tony was at the forefront, taking it upon himself to learn how to use computers to translate what he had previously rendered by hand.
Tony and Ampy emigrated to the United States in 1969, settling in Chicago, IL to raise their family. It was his dream to someday move to the West Coast, and in 2003 he found a job and moved to Fresno. Ampy followed soon afterward and they began their California adventure together, finding a new home in San Bernardino. Over the years, he used his computer savvy to connect with old friends. His friends called him the “Filipino Sherlock Holmes” for his ability to track down his former classmates and coworkers. He was known by many to be a fun-loving guy who was always making jokes.
Tony was a music lover of many genres and had a talent for making music. He played guitar since he was a teenager, and developed his ukulele skills later in life, growing a collection of guitars and ukuleles. Tony and Ampy loved to travel to the Hawaiian islands every year for their anniversary, and on their 50th anniversary in 2018, they brought the entire family. Throughout his life he loved to fish, hike, and collect bonsai trees.
Two services will be held, one in San Bernardino on Thursday, August 25 at 5:00 pm at Montecito Memorial Park and Mortuary Cypress Chapel, 3520 E Washington St., Colton, CA. The second service will be held in the Hartford, CT area at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations to be made in his memory to the National Kidney Foundation
