Benita Resendez was born into a family of fourteen children. She was the youngest girl. Shortly after leaving school to help her mother with expenses, she started working for the Santa Fe Railroad as a Painter's Helper. Upon receiving her weekly paycheck, she would board the train on Saturday for a day in Los Angeles for lunch and shopping at Bullocks. She was a petite young girl who loved to read the Hollywood magazines. A back injury ended her employment.
In 1953, she met Jose Rojas. They would marry and celebrate 65 years of marriage. They welcomed a baby daughter in November. They soon learned that the threesome would become a foursome. A baby boy was on the way. However, Eugene never celebrated his life. The next baby they welcomed was another girl. It was at this time that the little family needed to buy a home. Benita, not wanting to be too far from her mother, found a home less than five minutes away from where she grew up. Jose had accepted a job working for the City of San Bernardino. A few years later, they welcomed another daughter.
Benita is best remembered by the values she instilled in her daughters: be the best in everything that you do, be kind and respect your elders, be friendly and approach others with a smile, have belief in yourself that you can do anything, and family is everything. Benita measured her success by how well she raised her daughters.
She loved to read. She loved going on small trips to Pechanga Resort and Casino. She loved staying overnight in the suites and having a meal at the buffet. She loved watching Dancing with Stars and World of Dance. In addition, she stayed fiercely dedicated to Days of our Lives. She also enjoyed John Wick, Game of Thrones, Shameless and Ray Donovan. She enjoyed being the family historian. She journaled every morning. If you did not remember something, all you had to do was ask. She could find your date, lickety-split. She was an animal lover and had an Alaskan Malamute and an Eski-Jack. She enjoyed going to see all the dogs at the Santa Paws Event at the San Bernardino Humane Society.
She is survived by her husband, Jose Rojas, her eldest daughter Sylvia Maxwell, Son-in-Law Robert Maxwell, one grandson Jason Maxwell, her middle daughter Anna Lisa, and youngest daughter Michelle Lynn.
