Blas C. Resendez Jr.

He lived in Colton for over 55 years. He attended San Bernardino High School and graduated in 1965. Blas was a Vietnam veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Spec 4 from 1968 to 1970. Shortly after his discharge from the Army, he married Esperanza (Hope) Mendoza in which they were married for over 55 years. He attended San Bernardino Valley College and Cal State San Bernardino where he earned his AA, BA and a Master's degree in education. He worked for the San Bernardino City Unified School District for about 25 years as a teacher and counselor. Blas enjoyed playing his guitars, going RV camping at the beach, traveling, going to car shows and attended concerts to watch his favorite group the Gypsy Kings. He loved Mexican food especially nopalitos prepared by his wife. Blas is survived by his wife Esperanza Resendez, two sons Blas Resendez Ill and Gregory Resendez, and his three grandchildren, Blas Resendez IV, Giselle Resendez and Ava Resendez. His grandchildren referred him as "Papa Blas". He encouraged his children and grandchildren to seek educational opportunities. Due to his efforts, his children and grandchildren have all attended or are currently attending UCR, UCLA, Humboldt University and Long Beach State. Some have earned their degrees and have pursued professional careers from engineering to teaching. He was constantly telling them how proud he was of them. Blas enjoyed family gatherings for the holidays, especially Christmas where there was lots of food, games and anxiously waiting for the gift exchange.

Blas is preceded in death by his parents Blas Resendez Sr and Mercedes Resendez, and sister Graciela Resendez.

Blas was a devoted husband and truly a family man. He will be missed and will live in our hearts forever. We love you Papa!
