Charles William Kondrit, a long time resident of Rialto, California, died May 9, 2012, at the age of 85 from complications related to congestive heart failure. Chuck was a strong, honorable and loving man. He was born October 17, 1926, in Alleghany Township, Pennsylvania to Walter (Wasyl Kondraciszyn) and Anna Kondrit, who were from Farnopo, Poland.
Chuck’s father worked as a coal miner in Pennsylvania. Chuck was the youngest of four children, the late Jean Trzeciak, Faye Carruth, and Walter Kondrit. Chuck served in the Army in the Philippines during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1946. Shortly after, he moved to the Imperial Valley in California to work on the All-American Canal. While there, he met and married his lifelong best friend, W. June Newton. Chuck and June were married for 64 years before he died.
In 1953, Chuck graduated from the University of Redlands and began his work as an educator. While working, he earned his Master’s in Education at University of Redlands, and his Doctorate in Education at University of Southern California. Chuck was a teacher, then an assistant principal, and he later served as the principal of Trapp Elementary in Rialto. He retired as the Assistant Superintendent in Charge of Instruction for Rialto Unified School District on June 5, 1988.
Chuck had a long and happy retirement. He loved to play golf with his friends. They were usually the first ones on the golf course, arriving while it was still dark. Chuck was an eight year survivor of stage four non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, golfing even during the weeks he was getting chemotherapy. He beat the disease and was climbing up on his roof to fix things as recently as two years ago, leaving June below to call the ambulance if he fell.
Chuck is survived by his wife June, and his children and grandchildren: Daughter Nan Beaird, son-in-law Skip Beaird, and grandchildren Jenna and Nathan Beaird of Austin, TX; Daughter Marilynn Moore Yoshimoto and son-in-law Glenn Yoshimoto of San Bernardino, CA, grandchildren Joshua Moore and his wife Kristen Moore of Apple Valley, CA; Son David Kondrit and daughter-in-law Linda Kondrit, and grandchildren Faith, Hannah, and Paul Kondrit of Menifee, CA. He died with his family gathered around him, able to listen to his family talk and tell stories. He will be deeply missed.
