On February 3, 1956, he married Betty Jean Barwegen. Together, they ran a dairy business and built a God-centered home for their five children. Charles was a charter member of Hope Protestant Reformed Church where it was his privilege to serve as Sunday School teacher and on Consistory for many years. He also loved and served as a school board member for Hope Christian School. His devotion continued in his aged years as he joyfully proofread books for the Christian school and left his little yellow notes of approval or caution in each one.
He daily expressed His love for God and the gift of Salvation given to him by Jesus Christ. He was grateful for the love shown to Him by His many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and we all felt his love immensely in return.
He is survived by his "favorite" sister, Beverly Feenstra, his five children and their children:
Charles and Beth Van Meeteren; William and Faith Smit, Curtis Van Meeteren, Joshua and Tarah Schultz, and Nathan and Esther Van Meeteren, Randy and Nancy Hendriks; Robert and Sheri McClaury, Joel and Amy Hendriks, Jeff and Maruso Hendriks, Don and Shelly De Vries;
Daniel De Vries, Kevin and Abby Huizing, Gary and Mary Gaastra; Scott and Emily Gaastra, Casey and Kristina Meelker, Jeremy and Brittany DeJong, Adrian and Elisabeth Gaastra, and Steven and Beth Potjer; Zachary and Lauren Feenstra, Bradley and Jenna Potjer, Austin and Lisa Potjer, Sam and Brooke Huizing, Charles and Rebecca Potjer and Luke and Mikaia Potjer and 55 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grand-daughter. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty, her sister and husband, Floyd and Greta Bruhn, brother-in-law, John Feenstra and granddaughter Kari DeVries (Don and Shelly De Vries).
The Van Meeteren family is very thankful for the compassionate and wonderful assistance and care provided by Redlands Community hospice.
