

David was born on October 19, 1953 in Washington, Indiana. He moved with the family to Schenectady, New York, where he spent the majority of his youth. He attended St. Luke’s Catholic School, and served as an altar boy at both the Carmelite Monastery and St. Luke’s Catholic Church. David graduated from Linton High School and attended Alfred University.
In 1978 he moved to San Bernardino California and started his career with the San Bernardino Unified School District. In 2008, David retired as the senior custodian at San Gorgonio High School. While there, David was well respected and loved by his fellow custodians, teaching staff and students.
David is predeceased by his mother Virginia Ruth Mossey, brothers John Sumner and Daniel Sumner. Brother-in-law David Williams, nephew Joshua Dox Sumner, nephew David Williams Jr and Niece Valerie McLaughlin. He is survived by his sisters Theresa Williams, Marilyn McLaughlin, Dorothy(Greg) Matura, Karen(Karl) Edmands and sister-in-law, Debi Sumner, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. In addition, David is survived by his stepchildren, Vanessa, Nathan, Sarah, and Valerie(Dominic). They along with their children lovingly referred to him as “Papa Dave” a title that he loved and cherished.
David was an avid sports fan enjoying NASCAR, ice hockey, basketball, football and most importantly his beloved New York Yankees baseball team.
Family and friends are invited to attend Davids interment ceremony which will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, 3510 Washington Ave., Colton, CA on Monday, February 24,2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30.
After the ceremony, we will have a celebration of life at the Mexico Café, 892 E. Highland Ave., San Bernardino at which time we can share our memories of David.
