I was so upset to hear about Derrick's passing. Alyssa, Derrick, & Joylynn were 3 of my favorite piano students & I will forever cherish the time I spent teaching you all. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. My deepest condolences.

I used to spend lots of afternoons at the Lamberte home. I feel blessed to have known Derrick. He is one of the reasons I decided to work in Peds Oncology. Praying for your family. Please know mymom and i will not forget your loss.

It's hard to find words to express my thoughts & feelings with regards to Derrick's being gone so early in life. Derrick can be remembered as a son who gave inspiration to all by his ways and actions he left to us. Yes, he's really missed but we know that in that great resurrection morning we will see him again. My prayers are with his family to be strong and faithful to Him our Redeemer & Saviour.

I remember the good times we had on choir tour in Hawaii Sophomore Year in High School we had so much fun together, but probably my favorite memory is when we filmed our Musical in Jr. High together at his house one of my funniest and fondest memories of Derrick.. Besides the standouts, it was always fun just going to his house after school and playing video games, basketball, poker, and just filming every thing we did to keep the memories.  I love you Derrick!

Derrick was a great person and was a positive influence to everyone around him.  He will be missed.

"The child is not dead, but sleeping." Mark 5:39 Jesus often referred to the death of His saints as people who are sleeping. When I think of Derrick, he's not dead but asleep. He will soon wake up when the loudest alarm clock of all time sounds at the Second Coming of Jesus. However, knowing that Jesus Second Coming is very soon, Derrick is not sleeping...he's only taking a nap. I believe that soon and very soon we will see Derrick again, this time in a brand new glorified body that will never get sick or weak again. My prayers are with the Lamberte family. Let us do all that we can to hasten the Second Coming of Jesus so that we may see Derrick again soon! "

I wanted to be just like Derrick. I would copy Derrick from his spiky hair to following wherever he goes. It's been difficult not seeing your face and smile. I miss him playing the piano and the guitar. Derrick would always go to my room, where he would pick up my guitar and play for me. He would always tell me if he was playing the song right. I miss waiting for you to come to my house, where he would take my brother and I to exciting and interesting places. I will miss your laughter, where we would just laugh for no particular reason at all. I copied Derrick on many things, but the one thing I want to copy Derrick the most is his faith. Even in the darkest days Derrick was still faithful. Derrick had his heart set on Jesus. Always ready to serve Jesus, whether it was telling his testimony or playing the piano. It was all for Jesus and giving glory to Him. I will miss you Derrick. I still look out my window hoping that I could see you again. I can't wait for that day when I can see your face and smile again when Jesus reunites us.

I will never forget the wonderful memories of Derrick. He was a big inspiration to my life. Derrick would always bring joy and happiness to everyone. There was never a day where I not smile or laugh when I see Derrick. I know in my heart we will see Derrick again in Heaven. Thank you Derrick..I feel so blessed of having you as my cousin and friend.

From all of our time at church and in Pathfinders, I'll always remember Derrick as a funny and fun-loving guy. Derrick was a fighter, and I will always find him inspiring. I'm so honored to have known him, and I know we will all see him again soon.

It was an honor to have known Derrick. 4th of July fireworks are the memories that stick with me and will continue to remind me of this amazing person.

Derrick,
All the things i can remember about you are memories that make me laugh and smile. You always knew how to bring humor out of any situation. One of the moments ill always treasure is when my family slept over at your house. I remember playing video games with you all night (although we probably weren't supposed to). The games weren't that important though. It was knowing that I had a brother in Christ, that I could share that moment with that will stay with me forever. Love you man.

My Condolence to the whole family. I am so glad to have the hope that the dead in Christ will one day rise again: 1 Thes 4:16. I hold on to the promise that we will meet our brothers and sisters in Christ in Heaven some day.

Derrick is my inspiration.  His strength, courage, and faith in God are the things that I strive for in life.  Not a day has gone by since his passing that a thought or memory of Derrick hasn't crossed my mind.  Alhough the pain of losing him is still fresh, I take comfort in knowing that he is at peace now.  My desire to see Derrick again someday makes my faith in God that much stronger.  Derrick did that for me.  Because of him I am inspired to live my life more faithfully.  Because of him I am inspired to live my life more prayerfully.  It's amazing what one person can do for another in such a humble and quiet way.  But then again, that was and always will be Derrick....amazing.  I will miss having him as part of our “cousin group” because now it feels incomplete, but I know that when we all get to heaven someday, it will be the greatest reunion.  Rest well, Derrick, and we will see each other again soon.

Derrick was always there for anyone who needed help. I remember that I was going to have surgery one day, and no one was available to drive me to the hospital. Without any hesitation, Derrick willingly took me that morning. I was feeling a little nervous but once I got into the car with him, I saw a calmness in him. I was reminded that he had been through a much bigger trial than what I was going through. And in it all, His faith in God grew even stronger. After thinking about his situation and how strong he was, it made me feel calm, knowing that God was right there beside me; That God took care of Derrick throughout his sickness. Even though Derrick isn't with us anymore, I have assurance that God loves Him and we will be able to see him in the resurrection. 

Until then Derrick, you have fought the good fight. See you in the morning.

Its been about a month since Derrick was taken from us, and everyday he crosses my mind. I miss him a lot, and I believe everyone else does too. But every time i question why this has happened, a thought comes to my mind. He did not leave silently, but he left a great legacy behind. To me personally, he engraved an image in my mind of a loving and caring guy who has a strong relationship with God. And when times get rough he doesnt worry about it, cause He knows God will take the lead and bring Him to where he needs to be. This image i have in my mind of Derrick is what i long for, what i strive to be. And though my will is not strong enough to get me through, his keeps on pushing me. It may hurt that he is gone, but i know i will see him again at the gates of heaven. I love you Derrick, sleep well.

Reflecting on my memories of Derrick I only remember the good times and an individual who only had kind words even during competition, team work during pathfinders, and inspiration during our interaction. He is a man I definitely aspire to for displaying kindness and a Christ like attitude.

Itsuran (Derrick) man you were a great influence but never once had i seen you sad,cry, or in so much pain. I wish i could have seen your face when you saw your character Itsuran Kellen when it was done and all the things i could have added to your character all from you yourself. Derrick was an amazing person.  He's touched the lives of many people through his many talents.  Some of the things I remember is during our 8th grade, our English class had us make a video.  Me and Derrick and a few other people were in a group.  I remember going to his house a couple of times to do film our story plus commercials that we had to add in between the story.  I just remember always laughing and running around and not getting anything done because everything we did was so funny!  We could never film a scene without laughing so hard. 

Derrick was an Amazing man, he always made everyone laugh even if there was nothing to laugh about.  Even though I did not get to see his musical talents, just by watching the videos, He inspired so many people.

Even though Derrick is no longer here, I know that We will all see him again when Jesus comes to bring us all home.

I've known you ever since i could remember... you were my friend, my companion, my brother. Your presence always just brought laughter... I miss the days when we were all in pathfinders together...I miss when we all sang together... i miss those days we would just hang out in the back of church together hahaha... always goofin off doing stupid things then getting yelled at hahaha... We'll see each other real soon, i love you man.

I once told Derrick that my son loved him like a brother and he just smiled and I realized that he already knew it.  My son and he were best friends and were always spending the night at each other's homes.  Derrick had a very distinct laughter that stood out from everyone else's and when he laughed, regardless of how many were laughing, I could always identify his and couldn't help but smile.  He never knew how many times I smiled thanks to his laughter or how many times I thanked the Lord for sending him into my son's life.  He was a blessing to everyone that knew him.  He had a calming, peaceful, quiet way about him that I really appreciated and I knew my son needed in his life.  He was very talented and more than once I would walk by the living room just to see who was playing the keyboard or singing so nicely and of course, it was Derrick.
Every time my son or daughter would give the news that Derrick's leukemia was in remission, my heart and spirit praised the Lord.  And every time my son or daughter would inform me that the dreaded leukemia was back, I would pray more earnestly than before.  When I came to work at Pine Springs Ranch I added Derrick's name to our daily prayer list and every workday after worship he would be in our prayers.  When I was given the news about Derrick's passing it was a very dark, painful day for me that I won't ever forget.
One thing I realize is that I never told Derrick just how much he meant to me and my little family and just how much we loved him.  But I hold on to that blessed hope to see him again and on that glorious day I'll tell him, even though I suspect he'll already know it.

I will always remember Derrick's willing heart.  There was never a time when Derrick refused to help.  When we were in college, we attended Crafton Hills together.  He was always willing to pick me up and take me to class when we had classes together.  I remember this one time that I tried talking him into taking Chemistry with me, but he really didn't want to.  I just kept on bugging him, making sure he signed up.  But he would tease me by saying that he didn't want to and he wasn't going to sign up and for me to have fun in class by myself.  Well, when I went to the first class, lo and behold, there was Derrick! 

   He was always willing to drive us everywhere and to take us to different places and never got tired of being our chauffeur when no one else wanted to drive.  His car always smelled like flowers, in which our friend, Kristina would argue that it smelled like tortillas, in which Derrick's reply was, "Maybe it smells like 'flour' tortillas".

     There are so many memories that I could write about Derrick and his humor, but it was his Godlike heart and love that will always be an inspiration to me.  He was a strong person, a fighter, and a always persevered no matter what the circumstances.  He will truly be missed.  His life has touched my life in such a way that ever since he passed, every time I think of him or see or hear something that reminds me of him, it gives me more motivation to persevere in the Lord to finish the work for the Lord to come.

I find it difficult to sit here and write this, but Derrick was wonderful and the memories of him should be shared and not forgotten. My family and I knew him for too short a time, but the impression he made on us will last a lifetime. I'll never forget his laugh or his generous spirit. I'll never forget how even in his pain, he put others ahead of himself. Even in the tough times, he managed to bring joy to others and his playful spirit never waned. I will never look at puzzles, Cheetos, Pizza Hut, Chipotle, or cheesecake the same way again. I'll fondly remember Operation Cobra and even the moths. I'm so sad you've left us Derrick, but I'm glad you're finally free of pain. We selfishly miss you but it's a comfort to know you'll be with Jesus when He comes back again.

Derrick was like a big brother to me. He Introduced me to many things that shaped who i am today. I will miss one of the People that made the biggest impact on my life. I miss you Derrick.

You will be greatly missed, Kuya Derrick. We'll see each other very soon.

Though I've had the pleasure of meeting this awesome man only 4 times, I was able to see many of the characteristics (IE: silent charm, contagious happiness) that many recognized him for.  I knew our friendship would have been fruitful; unfortunately, it was short-lived.  Condolences to EVERYONE; it is amazing looking at these entries and understanding just how many lives he has touched.  We have lost a wonderful person but heaven has gained a wonderful person.

First of all, my deepest condolences go out to the Lamberte family. A wonderful family that I got to know more and more over the years. I've never shared this before but my fondest memory of Derrick was many many years ago. I used to own and run a collectibles shop and a very young Derrick would come in about once a month or so with his dad and buy packs of sports cards from me. I knew him and his family from church even though I wasn't a member of the church yet, but my mom was. And just about a year ago or so, Derrick and I had a random chat out of the blue and one of the things we chatted about was him coming in to my shop way back when and he started laughing because he was surprised that I remembered exactly what he would buy every time he would visit my store. That was one of the last times I had a conversation with Derrick and it was memorable because I could feel his strong but happy spirit and enjoyment of life. A person like Derrick will never be forgotten. :)

I met Derrick through Finish the Work Ministry during my sophomore year in college. We went on a little camping retreat in October with FTW, and on that same weekend, I decided to give my life to Christ and get involved with the ministry, So he's kinda been there since the beginning of my Christian walk :) Outside the ministry, we had a couple mutual friends, so every time we did hang out it was always a good time. When we were doing revivals with Finish the Work, we led a couple song services together and I remember him being so musically talented whether he was leading out or doing special music. In fact, one of my favorite songs is of him and Kurt singing "Lord, I want to be a Christian" which I still sometimes play to this day. 

There hasn't been a day I haven't thought of Derrick since the week he entered into rest. Every time my birthday comes on June 27, I will always think of Derrick and the family.. I seriously can't wait for the day Jesus returns to this earth to pick us up and reunite us with our love ones.

Til that day comes, sleep well Derrick. I miss you, but hopefully we'll see each other someday soon.

My mind is full of good memories of Derrick.  He was a friend that you could count on to be their for you.  We barely had any arguments, and if we did it wasn't over anything serious.  Derrick was sarcastic and humorous to the nth degree.  There were many times where the two of us would try to communicate in our native tongue, which we knew not.  Nonetheless thanks to our parents we had picked up a few lines and words that we adopted into our archive of "Classic Filipino".  Sometimes I would be surprised how much he knew!  In any case, besides being talented in picking up languages, he was also musically gifted.  I remember he would always play the piano, the instrument he absolutely loved.  And one of the songs I will always connect with is "On Jordan's Stormy Banks".  In face, one night we took that hymn and put together another melody for it.   And this will be my song that will ever remind me of him, and that I will sing until we cross that river.  Derrick will always have a special place in my heart, and will always be missed.  However I thank God it will not be long until we see him again.

I met derrick in jr high. We spoke here and there but really didn't get close till our junior year in high school. And for a lot of the friends that bonded that year, that's when the word "fun," through derrick and the guys, went beyond our imagination. Not only that but it was also the year when derrick and some other friends became closer than ever. I've always wanted a brother; So through derrick and some other friends - I basically considered him and the other fellas "my brothers from other mothers."

Every time I hung out with derrick fun, adventurous, or laughter would always be the description. From Sabbath afternoon hikes, dog parks, video games, long boarding at 2 am, playing the board game "risk" till 5 in the morning, car chases, but best of all participating and helping with church Sabbath activities.

"DERRICK WAS A GENTLE PERSON, A WISE MAN, GOD FEARING - BECAUSE EARLY IN HIS LIFE, HE CHOSE CHRIST AS HIS CENTER, HIS HOME, HIS PURPOSE, HIS EXAMPLE, AND HIS VISION. AND WE CAN ALL MAKE THAT CHOICE TODAY."

Derrick, you have fought the good FIGHT, you have kept the FAITH, you definitely have finished the TASK. Well done my brother; YOU HAVE INSPIRED US ALL.

I will miss Derrick greatly.  I always wanted him on my team when we played ambush in the dark on camping trips when we were kids.  It was unfair for the other team when we had Derrick, Marvin, Bobby, Alan, Edwin and I on the same team because no one could ever find us or catch us.  Good times and good memories.  Thanks Derrick and I hope to see you again soon bro.

Derrick displayed more courage than anyone I have ever known during his battle with cancer.  I never saw sadness, always  positive and upbeat.  That will always be a lasting testimony for me.

I have so many special memories of Derrick.  Little things reminded me of him days after his death. The night he passed away as I was driving home, we passed by Boba Tea House. I remember how he liked the taro boba drink. He got me and my sister hooked on it. 
     A couple days later, "Can you feel the love tonight " the song from the Lion King was playing on the radio.  I remember how as a little boy he loved watching that movie over and over again.  Everytime that part came on, my brothers would tease Derrick because Simba and Nahla would kiss.  Derrick would get embarrassed so he would run and hide somewhere.  He also loved watching Land Before Time.  He was probably 2 or 3 yrs old when he first saw it. He was so into the movie.  And the part when the mommy dinosaur dies, I remember looking at him and he turning to me and his big round eyes were filled with tears.
     I also remember how Derrick, his sisters,  and cousins liked the Michael Jackson video "Black and White".  They liked when the different faces would morph into each other.  They laughed hysterically.
     My final memory of him as a little boy was how every time he stayed over our house in L.A.  He would go look for my brother Domingo in his room and say" I want to watch an animal show".  I will always remember them sitting together watching National Geographic.
    Derrick was truly a kind and loving kid. We miss him dearly.  But we know we will see him again.

I remember how flawless and confidently Derrick played the piano at the wedding reception for one of Ate Nelly's sons.  Despite my many extra years of experience, I admired his mastery as he played "My Heart Will Go On" from the movie "Titanic".  Uncle Scott

Derrick was always funny and a very good piano player. He inspired me to play the piano.  I miss you kuya Derrick.

My favorite memory of kuya Derrick is when I was singing with him because it was fun. I liked how he played. And since he was my cousin, I wasn't afraid of being on stage. He made me brave.

We were driving by the lake over by my house in Northern CA.
Me: Hey Derrick, did you know this lake doesn't have a bottom to it?
Derrick: You mean bottomless?
Me: Yes =)
Derrick looks at me like i'm weird and curls up one side of his lip and kind of put his eyebrow up..
Me: I'm serious Derrick!!!
Derrick: Yeah right..
LOL that is one of the many great memories that I have of Derrick. He was so funny yet such a sweetheart. Had a voice of an angel. Elise and Devin have amazing memories with Derrick. Thank you Lord for the blessed assurance we have. We love and miss Derrick..

I wish I could say I was a good friend of Derrick, or even an acquaintance, but I really cannot. I have only faint memories of him in high school as I was Alyssa's classmate and thus did not spend time with him. However, I do remember when I first heard he had leukemia and would be out for the rest of the school year. Ever since that time, I've kept him and the entire Lamberte family in my prayers. I was saddened upon receipt of the news of his death and my condolences and prayers continue to go out to the family. With God's grace, we will all see him again someday in the land where death is no more.

Derrick was such a blessing to me.  I used to be the music coordinator at Fontana SDA church, when Derrick was attending there. We were in need of a pianist so I was exploring my options when I was informed that Derrick had a hidden talent that he was very quiet about.  I approached Derrick to request  for him to play piano every other Sabbath for us. In his humbleness, he got very quiet and said "Amber, I don't really play that well". I assured him that something was better than nothing and he immediately got very nervous telling me he would have to give me a list letting me know which hymns he knows how to play. (i still have that email) The first sabbath came when It was Derrick's turn to play. The music was beautiful! I couldn't believe it. I remember church members coming up to me and saying " we need to have him play every week". It truly was a blessing to have him play for us even though it was a short time. I look forward to hearing more of his music when we get to heaven. FFL!!!

I am sure that Derrick touched many people during his life- his family and friends, even those who only met him once.  Derrick had such a bright energy to him.  I remember he was always smiling. He truly is an inspiration and a testament on how to live one's life. Derrick, you will surely be missed! My thoughts and prayers are with the Lamberte family.

My brother Derrick has always been the one that I could say brought comfort to my life.  Whenever there were issues, problems, stress, and deadlines, my friend Derrick always had a sense of peace and strength that brought courage and fortitude to my life.  One of the greatest memories I have of Derrick is when I went over to his house to spend the night and an earthquake took place. Prior to that, I had gotten into an argument with my mother and I was already feeling horrible, and to be awakened by this earthquake I thought that God was punishing me for my lack of faithfulness to Him and my mother.  As I was awakened by the moving of the house, I remember getting up and waking up Derrick and running to the hallway saying we need to find a secure place before this house crashes down!  Derrick just calmly told me to relax and go back to bed.  But, how could I when my mother was mad at me?  But his peaceful demeanor and strong resolution brought courage to my life.  That morning, I apologized to my mother and felt a whole lot better.
This small story has just been the theme of Derrick's life up to his death.  The last story I have of my dear brother is when I visited him on the last Sunday of his life.  He was in so much pain but he just had that same peaceful and strong fortitude that gave me strength to deal with his situation.  Derrick truly has lead me to rely, like he has, on the strength of God through all of life's perplexities and trials.  Derrick, by his example, has lead me closer to my best friend, Jesus Christ.  I can't wait to see him again!

I'll never forget the time Derrick was driving Shane's Land Rover up north for a revival and we were in the carpool lane on the freeway and he crossed the solid lines to get back to the fast lane and right when he did so, a police car came out behind us and used his microphone to tell him never to do that again and then sped away. Derrick was so happy that he didn't get a ticket, he was like "Oh man, I have so many tickets! I can't get another ticket!" 

He had such a great sense of humor and would always greet me hello every time we saw each other. I'll never forget his musical talents. For my first sermon with FTW, I wanted him to do my appeal song, Fernando Ortega's "Jesus Paid it All." He was unable to do so because he wasn't feeling well but I can't wait to hear him sing that one day.

I will truly miss Derrick, he was a great friend and like a brother to me. We had so many fun times together, and I will always cherish those memories. He had such an impact on my life; he always reminded me somehow not to take life too seriously. And as he was teaching me then, he is still teaching me today. He is a true hero in my eyes.

Derrick, must have been six or seven when I first met him. He was a quiet, yet playful little guy. He loved to laugh, but strangely enough he was very shy. I would always try to talk and play with him, but I could hardly get a word out of him or get him play with me. It just so happens that on one occasion, Darlynn's (Derrick's cousin) family was having a get together and I was invited to come. It was a hot summer day and I was wearing shorts that day. After having a meal, I sat down on living room carpet, and out of nowhere Derrick ran to me and sat on my lap. I was shocked to say the least, but then he began to rub my hairy legs. I don't recall who asked Derrick, why he was rubbing my legs, but his response was hilarious. "Because he has sexy legs." From that day on I started to call him "sexy legs." Needless to say he would shy away from me every time I called him "sexy legs." 

Derrick, now you are resting in the Lord, but I hope to see you one day soon. Don't worry I won't call you "sexy legs" anymore. And Hopefully you won't be timid with me anymore, and we can talk for hours there in a place called The Promise Land. See you in the morning!

I remember my cousin Derrick loved to eat. Late one night as my husband (boyfriend at the time) drove me back home, I had the craving for Taco Bell. After we bought the food, we decided to head back to my house. As we parked the car at the designated space.. we ate in the car. Derrick (7 years old) was staying over my place that night. Somehow he heard the car parked. So, he proceeded to go to the balcony and yelled, "Hi Ate Bebot, what are you doing?"
 Me- "We are eating!"
 Derrick-"What are you eating?" 
 Me- "Taco Bell!"
 Derrick- "Can I have some?" 
 After my husband and I ate, I called Derrick to come down and took him to Taco Bell late in the evening. He was so happy.

Condolences to the Lamberte family.  Everyone misses you very much Derrick.  Can't wait until God comes again so that we can all meet in heaven and there will be no more sorrow.

I will forever remember Derrick as a little kid that was very willing to go along with the little prank ideas he, me, or anyone had. He was full of joy and life in every aspect of his being that it was evident in those whose lives he touched. He will forever be missed in our family

I never talked to derrick a whole lot back when we went to school together, being that i was more friends with his sister, Alyssa.  But whenever we did talk, he was always so kind and i could truly see God's love through him.  I remember how strong he was when I went to visit him at Kaiser when he was first diagnosed.  He had a smile on his face and was making the best of the situation, even though he was physically, mentally, and emotionally drained.  It was amazing, and it puts a smile on my face whenever I think about derrick and his beautiful character.  Thank you Derrick for being such a great example, and I can't wait to see you again, brother!

Derrick has been my best and oldest friend.  We've known each other since kindergarten, at SAJA, where we first went to school with each other.  We basically knew each other our whole lives.  Throughout the years, we've formed a great friendship and so many memories together.  He was the kindest, funniest, and strongest person I have ever known.  He always knew how to put a smile on people's faces and make them feel comfortable.  He always tried to make even the most negative situations something positive.  He loved his family and friends very much, and it showed through his actions.  He also loved God very much.  Even through his trials he never lost sight in Him.  Even though his body is no longer here, his spirit will live on through his family, his friends, and all those whose lives he has touched.  I thank God for blessing me with a friend like Derrick.  I will always cherish the time we've spent together.  He became like a brother to me, and I will always remember him as that.  I love you, I miss you, and I'll see you very soon my friend.

I remember the fun times during pathfinders, this guy always had a smile on his face. One time I remember he was wearing his famous 'paco' shirt and he asked me if I caught the Matrix on TNT the night before. For some reason, this simple sentence made us crack up during formation. We almost had to squat for punishment since we were too loud. Suffice to say, our captains were not pleased. Here is to you Derrick. I hope to hear your laugh once again!

We joined Claremont Filipino SDA Church in 2009. I remember our first Camp in Arrowhead and there was one evening when I was asking questions about the history of the youth at the church. One thing that impressed me most about the youth, was their concern and love for Derrick - they told many many stories about their adventures with him. They really had good memories in the church together. At every bible study, every time we would pray and ask for prayer requests - the first request would be "pray for Derrick." I have grown to respect and love Derrick through the stories and love of others for him.
 
I remember, one time Aunty Steneli called me to ask me to talk to Derrick about possibly taking Physical Therapy. He was shy, it ended up Aunty asking the questions over the phone and he was quiet and just listened. 
Although we didn't know Derrick for many years, I do know his impact on the youth was great. The times I was able to chat and visit with him resonates the fun, shy, kind and respectful person everyone says he is. The youth truly miss him and will always remember him through all the great memories they had together.

Traditionally speaking someone might say that Derrick will be missed, however he won't be missed for long because his witness will work miracles from this day forth to bring us all together again. Thank you Jesus for my brother Derrick and a memory to ensure I never forget what he meant to our family.

Derrick was my best friend in college as we attended classes together and spent hours outside of class hanging out. I loved his humor, his taste in music, and counting on him as a friend even in my own difficult times.  What I will remember most about Derrick is the strength and courage he had amid the battling leukemia. He is an inspiration to my life to live strong too.

Derrick, I love you, I miss you, and I know Heaven is waiting for you.

I didn't know Derrick very well but I knew him through his sisters.  He was definitely a good person, and you can definitely see it through him.  The only time I ever did hang out with him was during highschool (I was a senior, and he was a freshman) in Pastor Skoretz's classroom playing foosball.  He and his friends were definitely fun to hang out with after school.

We will miss Derrick hes a nice young man who is very talented who loves to play the guitar and piano to me his my inspiration because he went through alot in his life and never gave up he never saw the negative but the positive side in life that shines on his side We miss you always but you will always be in out hearts and thoughts

My memory of Derrick that stands out the most is when he and Nam came over to my house in Hot Springs, Arkansas and they played laser tag with me and my family. He was a genuinely nice guy and I was so sad to hear of his passing. He will be very missed.

Derrick--in junior high, he was the shy, quiet new kid.  That was until we got to know him better.  An incredible musical talent, hysterical and contagious laugh, and a heart for serving people as a part of the body of God.  

I remember this one time at an LLA high school picnic in Yucaipa, a few of my friends and myself went over to talk to Derrick and friends.  I don't remember what we said, but Derrick started laughing super hard, which made all of the rest of us start laughing so hard we were crying.  I'm pretty sure nothing we said was funny, but Derrick's laugh was contagious no matter what.  He always had a way of making the situation light and if he ever started laughing, he would always make everyone around him laugh.

A few times throughout our junior and senior years of high school, we went to visit Derrick in the hospital.  Never did he look sad, upset or alone.  He never focused on himself or what he was going through.  He always wanted to know how we were doing, how our class was and what was going on at school.  He made us feel so comfortable.  It was like having a regular conversation with him, just in a new location.  We always left feeling like he had comforted us, instead of the other way around.

Derrick, you will be missed.

Hey bro,I am going to miss doing ministry with you. Especially, the song On Jordan Stormy Banks and I remember when you were leading the Week of Prayer in Azusa Indonesian Church and you said " singing with from our bables" instead of Bibles.Good times.

I will truly miss Derrick.  Ever since I met him in junior high, he has always had a calming and friendly smile.  As I got closer with him throughout high school, I saw a fun and humorous side to him that I will never forget.  He always knew how to make people laugh and turn ordinary events into memorable events.  He has left such a positive impression on this earth and he will never be forgotten.  Till we meet again Derrick.

I will always remember Derrick for his politeness and his gentleness. A true Christian "Gentleman". I look forward to meeting him again on that great day. May God bless the Lamberte family, who I consider among my dearest friends.

Derrick was more than a cousin, he was a brother to me. I miss him dearly :(
His Courage, Strength and Faith in God has made a tremendous impact in my life, that will forever keep me going as I face my own struggles. He was definitely a fighter! He never gave up!

One of my favorite memories of Derrick was when we re-did the hymn "Whiter than Snow". We were at church after services and potluck and there wasn't much to do so I looked over at him and said, "hey lets write a song!" And he was like "What?!?" I said "yeah come on your super talented and I want to hear you play the piano". He was so shy about it, but finally agreed.  It was so much fun and so spontaneous. I really miss his beautiful voice and piano playing.  He was such a musician at heart :) Cant wait to sing in heaven with you Derrick!!!

My last tribute to Derrick.

As I stood there next to your bed gazing at you for perhaps the last time, holding back the tears as best I can, your mother came up next to me and with a soft voice she said, â€œYou know, he really looked up to his Kuya Dennis.â€  Like a little child,  I immediately burst into tears. I cried as I haven't cried since I was a child.  As I struggled to get my composure, your mother began to tell me stories of how you as a little boy wanted to be just like your Kuya Dennis. How you would asked her to buy clothes that were similar to mine.  I recall those brown leather boots and bomber jackets that were tiny versions of mine. I remember how you would sneak into my room and put on my boots and leather jacket and walk out saying, â€œLook! I'm Kuya Dennis! She told me how you would ask her to brush your hair â€œjust like Kuya Dennis.â€ And how you would get mad at her because she didn't do it quite right. Telling her, â€œLike Kuya Dennis, I said!â€ And how you would take the brush from her and spend a long time trying to do it yourself.
 
Then, as the years went by, you grew into your own. You grew up to be such a fine young man. With a sweet, gentle spirit and a kind heart that can only be described as after God's very own. So talented and so brave in your long fight against cancer, never loosing faith, even to the very end. Any parent would have been so proud, just as the rest of us, are proud. 

Little did you know Derrick, that by now it is I, your Kuya Dennis,  who looks up to you and can only hope to be JUST LIKE YOU!

His life had been a testimony of how great God loves us! What an example of faith for me to look up to! It is not us to control the situation we are in but Him who teaches us everything. Thanks for the opportunity of knowing Derrick!

Derrick, you are an inspiration to everyone. I can truly see how God has worked through you to guide your family not only closer, but also stronger to Him. When times were rough, you did not give up. You gave your family courage and strength within themselves. The memories I have go way back to my summer vacations. I would always come out to California in the summer and hang out with you at church. Even though I wasn't in pathfinders, it would feel like I would be always camping with you guys and it was always an adventure. You were like the coolest kid with the coolest and newest things and it felt like the same as we grew older. I want to thank you and your family for being so kind and generous to me. When I would hang out with you and your cousins, I felt accepted. We would always joke around and even make fun of Alyssa. When I came back from Florida this year, I was fortunate to visit and hang out with during your final weeks here on earth. It was hard for me seeing you in the hospital bed knowing how much pain and suffering you had been through. Your family were in tears at times, but you never let up. You gave us the assurance that everything would be okay. You never questioned God and never blamed anyone. You would always say you were okay even though I knew you were in pain. As you were in the hospital bed, you would always show me all the cool videos, new clothes, and technologies that were coming out and I realized we had a lot in common. I really wished we could of hung out more and talked more. You were always full of life. Your family will continue to do your work and live through you. You will never be forgotten, but you will always be missed. Thank you Derrick for all that you have done. You truly inspired me.

Growing up, Derrick was always getting me in trouble. There was this one time when he was chasing me around the house with a scary mask on for no reason. Since my parents were both sleeping, I decided that it would be a good idea to run outside, instead of inside the house. As I run onto the driveway, I see my brother hop onto his scooter. I don't know why, but this scared me more. I lose my balance and somehow I fracture my foot. I tell my brother to run inside to get my parents, but he decides to take his precious time :[ My mom finally comes out and she starts scolding me. "This wouldn't happen if you weren't playing on the Sabbath." Hahaha, this is just an example of how Derrick would always get me in trouble. I miss you a lot, little bro <3

Good Time, Now Turned into Memories

I remember this one time when I was maybe 8 or 9 years old that Derrick came into my room and annoyed me for no reason. Since I got so irritated I got up and chased him around my house until I got him. But sadly I lost sight of him... 

Then I searched and searched and searched until I could find him. Luckily I did find him in the garage.

All could say is that his big head was an easy find for me! hehe~

As I saw him, I slowly walked behind him and literary stand their for 5sec until I burst out laughing. 

When I laughed, Derrick got scared and said, "Whoa!!!! What the-? Are you a ninja?" As he said that I put my hands around my hips and said, "Yes, Yes I am!" 

When I look back at the memories I had with Derrick, all I could remember was me laughing sooo hard that I almost choked. Derrick always new what would make me laugh every time he visits. 

Derrick was more than a cousin, he was always my 3rd big brother...
