Esperanza was a woman known for her strength, humor, and big heart. She cherished her family above all else and found great joy in spending time with them, especially during the holidays when everyone gathered together making tamales, sharing stories, and laughing at the jokes that filled the room. Her family meant everything to her, and she was always there for them.
She was affectionately known by many names throughout her life—Mom, Little Lady, Grams, Grandma, and Lancha. Her great-great grandson Jordan lovingly called her “Grandma Hopey,” and she adored him dearly.
Esperanza enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Colton Woman’s Club, where she was part of the Viejita Club and loved attending luncheons and gatherings. She also enjoyed playing Bunco, which she looked forward to as a fun time spent with friends.
She had a love for simple pleasures in life. She was a devoted Los Angeles Dodgers fan and especially enjoyed watching her favorite player, Mookie Betts. She also loved good food, particularly chile rellenos, and enjoyed visits to Maria’s Restaurant and In-N-Out. At home, she took pride in keeping her yard beautiful and making sure her grass stayed green.
Esperanza is preceded in death by her parents, Remigio Marquez and Dolores Marquez. She is survived by her sister, Delia Perez; her son, Ray Campa, and daughter-in-law Stacey Campa; her step-son Eddie; and her step-daughters Stephanie, Joanna, and LaVonne. She also leaves behind her granddaughters Karina and Trish; six great-granddaughters, Amber, Karissa, Melanie, Kristine, Bailey, and Kayleen; and one great-great grandson, Jordan.
Esperanza will be remembered as a strong, loving, and funny woman who brought warmth and laughter to those around her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
