Born on December 26, 1929 in Trinidad, Colorado, Phil was the son of Juan and Maria Aragon. He left Colorado in 1948 to join the Armed Forces. He was a proud Korean War Veteran. While stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines he met the love of his life, Emilia de Leon (Emy). Phil (fondly known as Uncle Bob in the Philippines) married Emy on March 3, 1957 and raised 4 children while serving 20 years in the US Air Force.
After his retirement from the US Air Force in 1968, he moved the family to Rialto, CA and began a second career as a Correctional Officer for Chino Institution for Men where he worked for 20 more years and retired in 1988.
Phil and Emy spent their first years of retirement in Big Bear, CA and then later settled in Aguanga, CA. He enjoyed the RV life, camping and traveling often, always with Emy by his side. They shared many special times and happy memories together. Phil was a devout Catholic, loving husband, beloved father and grandfather, and dedicated family man. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought immense joy to his life, sharing so many precious moments with them. He was a true inspiration and role model to his family and to countless friends. He will be deeply missed.
Phil is survived by his loving, caring and supportive wife, Emilia of 63 years, daughter Arlene (Dennis) Sherreitt of Carlsbad, CA; son Steven (DeVawne) Aragon of La Mesa, CA; and son Allen (Elizabeth) Aragon of Highland, CA. He was blessed with six grandchildren, Jacob, Alana, Jeffrey, Victoria, Michael and Allyse, and three great-granddaughters, Margo, Maizy and Tatum. Phil is also survived by his brothers and sisters of Colorado, Alfred Aragon, Gilbert Aragon, Ercie Abeyta, Viola Apricio, Sue Martinez, Dolores Sanchez, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Glenn Aragon of Rialto, CA, and brothers Ben Aragon, John Aragon and sister Margaret Ornelas, all of Colorado.
A graveside service will be held at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton, CA on Thursday June 18, 2020 with Full Military Honors. Given the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, a small family gathering will lay Phil to rest. A Celebration of Phil’s life will be scheduled at a later date when circumstances allow.
