Floratine (Flo) Blackwell Henry was born on January 2, 1953 in Los Angeles, CA. She was born to the union of Ernest and Thelma Blackwell, both of whom preceded her in death. She attended schools in Los Angeles where she thrived in all subject areas and loved her English classes. While attending school she crossed paths with the love of her life, her “soul mate” Darryl Henry Sr. She married Darryl on June 7, 1972. To this union they had four son’s: Jarrod, Darryl Jr. (better known as Taco), Derrick and De’ Fone (better known as Buddy). Flo believed in and truly loved all of her family. She was devoted to her children and loved doing things for them as well as her grandchildren.
Flo worked at several hospitals assisting patients with their needs. She worked at Riverside County Mental Health Hospital for eleven years where she talked to the patients giving them a reason for living. She thoroughly enjoyed taking care of others. She was always ready to help someone in need. She was always ready and willing to give them advice or whatever they needed at any cost. Flo decided to take an early retirement from her career in nursing, moved from her home in Riverside to a 55+ senior community where she could enjoy the good life as a senior citizen driving her yellow “Betty Boop” cart.
Flo so dearly loved her husband of 37 ½ years that after thirty years of marriage they re-dedicated their lives to each other Hawaiian style in a ceremony in their own back yard. They enjoyed hosting Christmas family parties and Fourth of July gatherings at the river together. Flo also enjoyed traveling with her husband and grandchildren. Every year they would go to places like Glamis, Knotts Berry Farm, the Orange County Fair, and the LA County Car Show. All of their annual trips, including trips to Vegas, were done in their motor home which Flo loved to drive out on the open road to see more of the world. Out of all of her travels she enjoyed Glamis the most where she would drive ATV’s and her “Betty Boop” cart through the sand dunes. Of all the things in the world if you knew Flo you knew she had to have her “Betty Boop”. She loved any and everything Betty Boop and she loved Jesus. And of course let not forget her annual sisters night out events, which was something very special to her.
On April 13, 2010, Flo passed on to be with the Lord and some of her other loved ones. Her great smile, warm heart, her joy and laughter will surely be missed by everyone. To cherish her precious memory she leaves behind her loving husband Darryl Sr., her children Jarrod (La Shaun), Darryl Jr. (Monya), Derrick (Ikesha), and De’ Fone (Sommer), twenty-one grandchildren La’ Janique, Diamond, Jarrod Jr., Jaylen, Darryl III, Damari, Destini, Passion, Derrick Jr., Derrick III, Tremaine, Tredell, Derrick IV, Anatasia, Nina, Destiny, Ikesha, Terrance, Asia, Malachi, Caleb, three sisters Brenda Hall, Michelle Thomas, Stephanie Robinson, four brothers, Charles, Lawrence, William, and Vance Blackwell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts and friends.
