He was a loyal member of Operating Engineers Union, Local 12 and worked for over 45 years as a heavy equipment mechanic for several large construction companies and for CalTrans.
An avid motor sports enthusiast, Mr. McKown built and owned race cars which won awards and held speed records at El Mirage Dry Lake and the Bonnevile Salt Flats.
A member of the United States Navy during the Korean War he also served as a citizen’s patrol volunteer for the San Bernardino Police Department during his retirement.
Mr. McKown is survived by his son Jeff and daughter-in-law Meg of Fontana, son Brian and daughter-in-law Leticia of Riverside, sister Margaret of Carlsbad and two grandchildren. Also surviving him are his beloved pet dogs, Daisy, Fred and Jack.
