

Born in San Bernardino on November 27, 1938 to Josephine and Trinidad Chavez, Fred Coronado Chavez graduated from Colton High School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Air Force for more than four years, leaving the service with an honorable discharge in 1962.
He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Espinosa, at San Salvador Catholic Church in Colton in 1961.
For more than 30 years, Fred worked as a press operator and a foreman for the Lily-Tulip Cup Corporation (later Sweetheart Cup) in Riverside. An avid sports fan and distance runner, he served his community as a volunteer coach for numerous youth sports organizations, including Ken Hubbs Little League and Carl Rimbaugh Softball League in Colton and the Southern California Roadrunners. He was also a varsity coach for Colton High School track and cross-country teams.
Fred is survived by his wife, Mary Chavez; his children, Fred G. Chavez of Colton, Ken Chavez of Palm Springs, Carrie Silva of Grand Terrace, and Jackie Herrera of San Bernardino; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Eddie, Sammy, and Ronnie; and a sister, Sylvia. He is predeceased by his sister Nancy.
He will be laid to rest at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton.
