He was an accomplished man. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and enjoyed a successful career in finance, serving as a Controller for Bank of America before retiring as the Chief Financial Officer of a company that manufactured multimillion-dollar yachts. Yet no matter how much he achieved, he remained humble and unassuming.
What made Gary truly special was not his career or accomplishments, but the kind of person he was.
He was a gentle soul — soft-spoken, intelligent, well-read, and extraordinarily kind. He was a mathematical wizard who loved solving math puzzles, collecting coins and first-edition books . He was excellent in answering trivia questions like in the tv game show “Jeopardy” He enjoyed watching Indy 500 racing and sports and crime shows on tv, loved movies, fine dining, music and the arts.
But what I loved most about Gary was his heart.
He was patient, caring, generous, and loyal. He treated everyone with dignity and respect, regardless of their background or circumstances. He lived a life of inclusion and acceptance and made people feel valued simply by being himself.
We shared many wonderful adventures together, including visits to nearly every state park in the country. Gary loved nature, the mountains and the open roads. One of his favorite stories was about a brief encounter with a bear during a mountain hike.Another was how he traversed the rims of the Grand Canyon. But among all his adventures, I like to think that finding each other was the one he cherished most.
I met Gary at a dance. It was the beginning of a love story that changed my life forever. This was the second marriage for both of us, but it became the last and most meaningful chapter of our lives. He was my husband, my best friend, my confidant, and my greatest source of comfort and support. I called him “Husband” and he enjoyed this little affirmation of love from me. He did not want me calling him by any other name. He treated me like a princess — pampered me, gave me everything that I wanted - big and small.
Gary was a devoted husband and father, a loyal friend, and a genuinely good man. He never sought attention, yet he touched people through his kindness, wisdom, and compassion.
The world feels a little quieter without him in it.
I miss him more than words can express, but I am deeply grateful for every day we shared together. Loving Gary was one of the greatest blessings of my life.
Gary, thank you for your love, your gentle spirit, and the beautiful life we built together. You were my knight in shining armor, my partner, my comfort, my greatest blessing, and the love of my life.
I will miss you beyond words. And I will love you forever.
