December 1934-August 2022
Gloria Joan (Bowman) Boring, 87, of Riverside passed away peacefully at home with her daughters by her side. She is survived by daughters Kim Carcamo, Renee Bouche, and Cheri Graser, stepdaughter Kristie Boering, 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Her husband Harold (Hal) of 49 years preceded her in death in July 2021.
Born in Upland to Eleanor and Elliot Bowman, she was an independent only child. Her early years were spent in Riverside, where she enjoyed the freedom of riding her bike around town, watching baseball games, and going to the movies. After moving to San Bernardino, she attended Arrowview Junior High School and San Bernardino High School, graduating in 1952. She had many close friends in her SBHS sorority, and won first place or runner up in a number of local beauty pageants, including being named Laguna Beach’s “Queen of the Surf” in 1950. At SBHS, she also became a contributing photographer for the high school yearbook, earning a Sun-Telegram photographic contest for SBHS seniors and a scholarship to a photography school in Santa Barbara. In 1952, she married Bruce Bouche. They had 3 daughters, whom they raised together for 10 years, followed by Gloria raising them on her own for another 7. In 1965, she worked as a school secretary for San Bernardino City Schools where she eventually met her husband Hal, who was an assistant superintendent. She was happy to add his daughter Kristie to the family in 1973.
Gloria was a devoted wife to Hal and supported his career, always by his side and entertaining for him and traveling to many places with him. She was intelligent, funny, artistic, and loved to decorate her home, do art and household projects and cook, including for Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings that were a family favorite for decades. She also loved to read and do her daily Kakuro puzzles. She was not only a wonderful mother but also a best friend to us all.
All services will be held at Montecito Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3520 E Washington St, Colton, CA 92324: visitation on Wednesday, August 31st, 4-8 pm and a funeral service on Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 10 to 11 am followed by a committal service at 11:30 am.
