Guido Armand Drogemuller passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at the age of 79. He was born in Antwerp, Belgium, on April 20, 1942, of strict Seventh-Day Adventist parents. His father, Armand Drogemuller, was a self-made textile wholesaler. His mother, Emma Drogemuller, was from the bourgeois Leroy family. Guido had two siblings, Liliane, who was 11 years his senior, and Roland, who is 4 years his junior.
In 1957, the Drogemuller family decided to move to California. Armand chose Guido and Liliane to scout out the foreign land, preceding the arrival of the rest of the family. They settled in Glendale, CA where Guido attended Glendale High School. After high school, he studied at La Sierra College, now known as La Sierra University, where he worked part time as a security officer. This would go on to shape his future career and inspire him to become a police officer.
After acquiring an Associate’s Degree, Guido enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served for two years. He then sought a career in law enforcement. He worked for the Los Angeles Police Department for one year and the Glendale Police Department for 37 years, from 1969 to 2006. There, he made GPD history as one of their very first Auxiliary Reserve Police Officers. The program was approved in 1968 and the first four graduated from the academy in 1969; Guido was the only one in his class who went full time. After retirement, Guido went on to work for OMNISEC for two years, doing background checks for U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
After meeting Johna in 2006 at the Central Filipino SDA Church, the pair went on to eventually marry. Our blended family was defined by love and God at the center of it all. Without Guido’s love and support, the lives of many in our family would’ve been drastically different. Guido had a passion for sailing on “The Blue Knight” and travelling with his RV, “Brabo”. We are forever inspired by his devotion to living every day as if there is no tomorrow, and for that, we are grateful.
Guido Drogemuller is survived by his wife, Johna Drogemuller; 2 daughters, Kristin Geniebla and Angelica Drogemuller; son, Eric Drogemuller; brother, Roland Drogemuller; and 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Armand Drogemuller; mother, Emma Drogemuller; and sister, Liliane McLaughlin.
We mourn the loss of Guido and encourage any and all who knew him to remember the beauty he brought to this world. For any interested, a visitation will be held Monday, August 30, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Montecito Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3520 E Washington St, Colton, CA 92324. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 3520 E Washington St, Colton, CA 92324.
