Joan was born on Sunday, July 19, 1931 in Los Angeles, CA to Cliff and Estelle Ricketts. She was the oldest of 3 girls. When she was just 14 years old she noticed a cute blonde boy in her music class at George Washington High School. She went home and told her mom about him. 5 years later on February 17, 1951 she married that cute blonde boy Robert Eugene Renz. They were married for 73 years before Bob passed away on February 18, 2024.
They raised their brood of 5 girls in West Covina, where the girls were allowed to have many different kinds of pets such as parakeets, dogs, hamsters, sheep, goats, horses and ponies.
Joan was an absolutely amazing cook and enjoyed hosting many different dinners throughout the years. She was also an amazing baker, and some of us think she had some secrets up her sleeves as her cookies were the best around.
Joan had many interests during her life.
She had a keen and curious mind. She loved reading and always had a book that she was engaged in. She was a wonderful seamstress and loved to crochet and knit. All of us have been the recipients of her beautiful blankets, scarves and slippers. Even her great-grandchildren have received some of these special gifts as well as some of her grand puppies. She was a big walker and lover of nature. She walked regular into her late 80’s. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life Bob Renz and her sweet daughter Carol Munson. Their reunion must have been a beautiful moment. She is survived by her daughters Connie, Cheryl, Caren (Steve) and Christine (Stewart), 20 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 9 am at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton, CA.
