John Anthony Lopez Sr, but we all knew him as Chestnut, age 66, of Redlands, passed away on February 28, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family. His entire family is deeply saddened by this loss.
He was born on January 15, 1960, to Vielo and Trini Lopez.
John suffered with type II diabetes half of his life and in late 2021 he was diagnosed with vascular dementia.
John married Sylvia on June 16, 1979, and they shared a deep and enduring love for 46 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia, of Redlands and his children, John Lopez Jr. and Janice of Redlands, David and his wife Virginia of Adelanto, Daniel and his wife Erin of Fontana, James and his wife Alli of Ohio, Melissa and her husband Santiago of Redlands, and Marissa and her husband Jesse of Redlands; as well as 23 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was so proud of his family and how big his family got. John is also survived by his brothers, Mario and his wife Alice of Redlands, Rudy and his wife Olivia of San Dimas, his brother in law Keith Clawson of Redlands, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Chestnut is preceded in death by his parents, Vielo and Trini Lopez, his sisters Barbara, Doreen, and Cookie, and his niece Erin “Roxbury’’
