John G Salas

Surrounded by family John G. Salas passed away at home on May 13, 2024. A WW2 Veteran born July 27, 1927 in Big Springs, Texas to the late Catarino C. & Sarah (Gomez) Salas. Resided in Big Spring Texas and graduated Big Spring High School. In 1945 during WW2, just before the age of 18 he enlisted in the US Navy, was stationed in San Diego Ca. and Mare Island in Vallejo Ca. After completing his service he continued with re-enlisting into the Naval Reserves, migrated to San Bernardino Ca. Began working for Santa Fe railroad. He eloped and married the beautiful Ramona (Chavez) in May of 1962, she preceded him in death in 1992. John retired from Santa Fe Rail Road after 41 years of service. He is survived by his Brother Perry Salas of Colton, Ca Children; Fernando (Tisha) Gonzales of Redlands, CA, Gloria Martinez who preceded him in death in 2021, Rosa Chavez of Loma Linda, CA, Johnny Salas of Redlands, Ca, Gilbert & Sally (Salas) Madrid of Yucaipa, Ca and Monica Salas of Riverside, Ca. He was a Grandfather to many not to mention 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation Great-Grandfather, he also had many nieces and nephews.
